I've been a long time fan of MUD but this is the first time posting on the 4Runner page. My son purchased a 1990 4Runner a month back and we have slowly been going through the car, getting comfortable with it and working on things that need attention.
One of the things that bothered me was that it's difficult for him to see out the back with the spare tire on the swing out arm.
I bought him a rear view camera. It's a WolfBox and it's a nice mirror but there's no elegant way to connect it up as the original mirror is mounted to a bracket that comes out of the roof console.
I looked around and couldn't find a bracket to allow me to mount the new mirror so I made one. It works with any mirror that normally mounts to the windshield. I tried it with the Wolfbox and a generic one I had installed in my 80 to give me a garage door opener in the mirror.
I also made it adjustable as it's common for the mirror to be offset due to the pivot behind the mirror. This means for an American car, a bracket that is centered will bump the left visor so you can use the right two mounting holes to help keep the mirror centered.
All said and done, I feel like it turned out well. I have a spare when I was making these and was wondering if I should sell 'em.
What do you think?
