I need a new emblem for my rear door top hatch.
The one that says LANDCRUISER across the back.

Went to the dealer, he said it's 130 bucks. OYE!

So, yeah, Dan...i'll be looking your way soon.

The perp is Lenny Dykstra's Car Wash Co. and their Cat 6 blower at the end of the "hands free" car wash. I'm trying to get them to replace it, but the owner seems to think he's not responsible for 13 year old adhesive. So I went and got him the part number and an invoice from the dealer up the street form him, he replies with
"I dont do business with them!" and many other choice words....

He's trying to tell me he's not going to fix it.

So when I get the replacement, what's the best way to remove the half that didn't get blown off, and re-apply the new one?

any idea?

oh, the blower also spun my PS wiper down and now just sits there....i'll check about tightening that screw, but I bet it's popped as well. He says that's none of his concern either. Seems to think I'm trying to scam him.

What a joke.

torch his place.

wouldn't that be sort of ironic? a car wash place going up in flames?

The first stance of the guy will be to deny any responsibility. Tell him that you'll simply report this to your insurance company and that he should expect to hear from them.

I wouldn't bother replacing the L A N D C R U I S E R emblem on the back, but that's just me. I've seen a couple models without the logo and it looks pretty clean.

If you want, I can pull my L X 4 5 0 emblem and mail it to you -- it has a little crack in it...but it you want it it's yours :D

I got one from CDan - seems that it was somewhere in the $75-$90 range. Still not cheap.

Be very careful about removal of the adhesive, and have patience, because it will take you awhile. Try a search on emblem removal - I think all the exterior emblems have the same type of adhesive.

Also, the new emblem will have an adhesive already there - just peel and stick after surface prep (well, stick carefully...).

I replaced mine... to cover up the dent... that cracked the old one.

That and I'm very fond of the emblem.

the guy thought your money was good enough to wash the 13 y.o. car, right? If he thought it was too old to get through safely, he should have told you upfront.
he's responsible, he should pay...

whatever you do, don't put pink panties emblems on, even though you may be swamped with Lexus owners trying to get rid of theirs.... :D

nah, that was a nice offer :)

Try some hi-tensile fishing line to remove the old one along with some 3M adhseive remover. Shouldn't take more than five minutes this way. Although the trucks do look clean without the emblem it serves the purpose of keeping the paint from scratching when opening and closing a dirty rear hatch.

Thanks all for the tips.
I'll be stopping by the perp's place of bidness tonight after work for a little coercive strategery.

His damn blower blew my wiper blade all around too. But I tightened the bolt without any probs so I'm lettin that slide.

I'd love to keep it stock looking, so I want a replacement.
If not, maybe I'll just machine one with a retro logo in it? Out of some anodized Aluminum er sumthin....we'll see.

Need to find some graphics to use though.

Am I the only one on the side of the car wash dude? Is the blower too strong? Is it really that powerful? I take mine through one of those and the emblem stays on. Is it the first time you've gone to that car wash? I don't think he should be responsible for 13 year old adhesive. Ive taken those emlbems off before, and they are not easy if they are on there right. The amount of air force it should have taken to get it off would probably do a lot more damage to other parts of the car. Why can't you just put it back on? Did it snap? Just get one from C dan. It probably could have used a "refreshing" if it was 13 years old anyway. I bet if you put a new one on and go through it wont fall off. Don't hate me. Just being the devil's advocate here. If I were the car wash dude, I'd give you some free car washes for the inconvenience and assure you if your car parts were properly attached, the air blower would not blow them off your car.

Most car washes have signage all over the place that they are not responsible for damage, I tend to side with the car wash. Of course even with the signage, I am sure you could get him to pay for damage if you had a lawyer ;)

I think I would consider putting a vintage emblem or maybe one of the 100 series ones that were mentioned, that would look good!

No you're not alone, I agree. There is no way a blower is going to blow off an emblem if it wasn't 3/4ths of the way there already. I'd believe the presure wash doing the damage before a blower would. I'm assuming that it was loose on one side and just cracked in two where the adhesive remained.

can somebody post up a shot with the thing gone?

mine has been cracked since the day i bought it and has a tiny crack causing dent behind it. drives me crazy but I can't justify the money to replace it. never thought of dispensing with it altogether.

As anal as we all are around here, I'm actually a little surprised whenever I hear about one of you guys going to those places. Let's see: Just off the top of my head, in the last few months someone's T-case got messed with, someone got a dented bumper or something back there, and now this. I wouldn't trust those guys anymore than I'd trust any old corner yaahoo mechanic.
