Not sure what you did here. Please explain.
I went through and measure the ohms on the + and - side of the primary coil.

I measured the resistance at the secondary coil resistance.

Both readings were within the specs.

Did you check for spark from the coil?
Did you test the dissy pick up coils?

I checked for spark at cylinder #1, then the main wire at the cap, then at the coil.

I'll check the pick-ups tonight.

On a seperate note, I have some ignitor info

The stock one on the 1991 LC is 89621-30010, this was superceeded by 89621-12010.

This old PN has a large "125" on it, while the new one has a large "123" printed on the body. Same size, mounting and plug, and mine came from a 1990 Lexus LS400...and can be had from many different Toyota vehicles.

I checked the pick-ups tonight and they were fine per the FSM.

I switched out the ignitor for the one from the LS400, and tried starting it. No go, but code 14 went away.

I then removed the AFM, and re-re-re-re-re-soldered the connections, and checked resistance with the FSM...good to go.

I installed the AFM, and the vehicle fired up after a few cranks.

The vehicle will not idle properly, so I need to keep my foot on the gas constantly, and it smells like it is running rich. I took it out for a test drive, and I'll be able to drive it tomorrow, but now I need to fix the idle issue.

Now, I am not completely confident in my soldering skills as this was the first thing I have ever soldered.

Could the poor idle be a result of poor solders?

I'll re-check for intake hose cracks and vacuum leaks later and will be replacing the AFM with a freshly remanufcatured unit, or one from SOR.

Thoughts?

OK, did some searching and reading, and the culprit was a bad rubber intake tube...HUGE crack, damn near all the way around.

Cleaned it up, put some RTV on it, and installed the hose.

Fired right up and idled fine.

Drove to work on the interstate, and the damn vehcile shut off at 60mph!

Codes 24 and 31 again.

I'm getting another AFM from Spector tomorrow, and sending my old one off to SIA to have it rebuilt as a spare unit.

Good on you Gavin. Looks like you got it all sorted.

Quick question: On this last go around when the truck stalled while driving, was the CE light on after it stalled and was not able to restart? If it is still in that condition please check for spark. I'm curious to know if the AFM can cause a condtion where the CE light is on and there is no spark. Alternatively, she could have stalled due to fuel starvation as the AFM also runs the fuel pump.

You also mentioned, "I switched out the ignitor for the one from the LS400, and tried starting it. No go, but code 14 went away."
Code 14 is a missing signal from the igniter to the ECU. Curious to know if you old igniter crapped the bed in the midst of all this.

In any case you've got it on the run and I learned something new from your misfortune.

The vehicle cut out for less than 30 seconds, and turned back on....all at speed. When it came back on, the CEL was on. It ran just fine after this. I pulled the codes when I got to my job site.

I do believe that the igniter crapped out during all of this as code 14 was never an issue when I was originally diagnosing this. After we soldered the AFM the first time around, code 14 never appeared. It wasnt until I stopped the vehicle to open the garage gate and then it wouldnt restart that code 14 appeared.

On a side note, there is also a code 71, but I already know my EGR system needs work, specifically one of the VSVs is bad, and the modulator filter is clogged and an intake stub is broken off.

Thanks to all for the help.

Awesome info on the igniters! thanks a ton man!
