i need to want to get a new steering wheel. but i need to hear what others have done.

the reason is the contacts behind my wheel are shot and the horn doesnt work(gotta have it for inspection) would it be easier to replace the switch mech. on the backside of the wheel or the whole wheel to solve this problem. i dont want a seperate horn botton.

its a 86 runner.

thanks
alan

I used the contact ring for the horn as a template and cut a thin single layer cardboard spacer to put behind the contact ring and has been woring fine for 3 years now. This is the cheap bastards solution.

I'm not sure if there's threads on this or not, or if the AM has repair kits or not...

But you don't need a steering wheel, you just need to make a contact from the spring loaded pin, to the ring around the column.

You can see it in the cut out of the signal indicator.

I think 4Crawler has a simple fix it, but I'm not sure... I'll check, but in the meantime just realize your problem isnt that big.

Someone should make a cap, like the percussion cap a black powder gnub uses that all you do is pull back the pin and slip it over it...

I've done the same thing along with finding something brass of copper to put over the end of the contact and crimp it on... Either way, you don't need a whole wheel!

thanx guys, now the search is on to find something to fix it with:censor:

If glue was conductive, I'd say just glue a small metal washer on the end...

But I don't think it is, and if you can even get conductive glue and if it's even cost effective or not...

I'm hornless too...

There are conductive glues out there, but I wouldn't expect them to carry much current.

Doing something to fix the contact will likely be the cheapest solution. Getting an assembly from a wreck will just be replacing old with old and it too will eventually go.
