in middle of installing slee battery tray. Ran into these fasteners in the wheel well skirt. How to undo?

Push the center button in and then pull the entire fastener out.

To re-install, pull the center button out as far as it will go, insert fastener in hole, push center button in until flush with the outer ring of the button.

HTH

Obviously wrong - sorry.

I hate those things. Small screwdriver, gently pry up on that button in the middle, then ease the fastener out. If it doesn't want to pop up, then it is probably crammed full of dirt, squirt some Simple Green inside and let it soak.

I've done that tray install in 2 200's now. Remove the left front wheel, it will be much easier. I threw away the fasteners that Slee provides and bought stainless steel, with nylon stop nuts. You will need someone to hold a wrench on the bottom nut while you tighten the cap screw from above. I would not bother drilling that hole for the 4th bolt, it is just not necessary, there is plenty of support from the 3 bolts in the existing holes.

Thanks klf . Small flathead to lift out center a little then used plastic fork panel removal to pull.

Follow up question: broke one of the wheel skirt fasteners - any idea of pet number? Also broke a fastener on engine shroud cover - the push in middle ones - part?

I can’t help with the part # but there is a plastic screen below the windshield that is a handy place to store the 6 or 7 extra ones that you ordered. Hint, hint.
I have always taken the broken one to the parts counter to get replacements.

Pushing the center button locks them into place.

Prying the button out with a thin flat-head screwdriver releases the lock.

Those retainers can get full of dirt and jam, then break if you pry on them. I like prying from two opposing sides at once if they don't come right out. Seems to help slightly.

@belmontjoe attach a pic of the fasteners you broke or even better where they went and I'll try and dig up the numbers tonight.
