I need your help, guys.
My friends are in the process of executing a company transfer from Reno, NV to Hagerstown, MD. In route and while staying in Decatur at the Ramada Inn, Hickory Point, some folks in the parking lot were lighting off fireworks and Snowy, their 14 yo white Samoyed, freaked out and bee-lined for the nearest corn field. She disappeared into the darkness and never looked back. This was Saturday evening, 7/26/08.
They stayed in the area (I-72 and State Route 51/Bloomington Road) for the better part of the next day (Sunday) looking for Snowy with no luck. They made contact with the local authorities, etc (pet rescues were closed) but eventually had resume their trip east.
Fortunately, Snowy’s momma had the foresight to install a Lojack on her before they left Reno. Well, not really a Lojack, but a brand new collar and name tag with their new Maryland phone number. Snowy recently got a Lions cut at the groomer so she will be real easy to identify. She’s a bit skittish around people she doesn’t know, but warms up quickly.
My friends are just heart broken and said that leaving Illinois without her was one of the hardest things they ever had to do. The kids are just a mess. I’m posting this for anyone in the Decatur area to please keep their eyes pealed for poor Snowy. Call me if you should learn anything?
Maybe someone in the Decatur area could call around to the shelters on their coffee or lunch break in the early part of the week?
Thanks for the time.

Alia,

Thanks for posting this to the Rover list. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

On another note, Alia, were you at Rausch Creek a couple months back riding with the Gotham City bunch? If so, I remember meeting you on the trail. If I recall correctly, you had just bought a new camera, yes? I was driving the green 40 on 36's with the Chevy motor.

Small world, ain't it?

Thanks again for the repost.

Dang, it IS a small world. Yup that was me. I'm still working in Danville!

We're dog freaks so I can imagine what your friends are going through.

Made some progress in the LR club; someone in the club still has friends in Decatur so word got passed on down. Let's hope for the best!

Just a quick update.
Sorry to say it, but we've heard nothing. That's usually not a good sign. We're still checking with the local shelters and other animal groups as well as continuing the ad in the paper for another week but I'm not holding my breath at this point.
Thanks to all who have helped. The vigil continues.

Man I hope the pooch isn't coyote food or some such thing. Keep us posted.

Happy ending

Snowy has been found! It has been exactly one week since she 'escaped'. Unbelieveable!!!

Some little old lady in Decatur found Snowy in her yard yesterday, hiding under her shrubs. She coaxed her out and then called the number on her collar. My friends called us last night at about 9 pm to tell us the great news, and that they had thrown some soda's and Scooby snacks in the car and were taking off for Illinois immediatly! It's a 1400 mile round-trip road trip. Ugh...

Thanks to everyone for keeping Snowy in your thoughts and prayers. Never travel with your pets without an ID collar and always use a leash!!!

Good news. I'll call off the hounds!
