Hi all, like the title implies- I took my arm rests off to install seat covers, and now can’t get them to go back on. Everything is lined up correctly. The square guide on the rest is firmly in the square hole of the seat.

The bolts just don’t want to catch. On both sides, when I initially tried to reinstall them the bolts seemed to be catching, and as I tried to tighten them both just lost the thread and came loose- and will not rethread onto the seat.

It doesn’t look like the threads are damaged anywhere, but I’ve thought about buying new bolts and/or getting a die kit/helicoil and recreating the threads in the seat. But I cannot find any information as to what size/thread the bolts are. I’ve had a few different screws/bolts break on me with this thing, so think some of the metal is getting soft due to age or wear perhaps- and maybe these are in that bucket?

I’ve spent hours trying to get these stupid things back on, to no avail.

Has anyone else had this issue? And advice? Any info about bolt size etc?

It’s driving me nuts not being able to get a solution for this- going on two weeks of trying.

(Yes I changed the color of the arm rests to the darker interior color, the beige wasn’t a match for the new seat covers and I had to repair cracks in the leather anyway).

Somebody else posted recently about this. In my opinion, those threads are toast. I would 100% get a new bolt, it'll be cheaper than your sanity and time trying to thread it in.

Yeah the problem is I can’t find anything that says what the bolt/thread is haha… I’ve been stuck for weeks. I’ve tried buying some random bolts but nothing has fit yet

No, neither one of them will go.
Then either/both your bolt and captive nut are stripped. You can try chasing the threads with a tap and die or just try a new bolt, easy to match at a hardware store.
