Costa rica stoped production in 86 as well as brazil . i have all import papers and title work

Interesting. I thought 85 was the last year. Maybe I confused manufacturing date with model year. i.e. a MY86 could have been built in 85.

It's listed HERE for $8200 ... It was listed as an '80 and he changed it to '86

I can't find a BJ42 after '84...

He stated that it is "listed as a 1980 but it is actually a 1986". Not sure how that makes a difference, but is there a 35 years or older rule for imports and emissions, etc?

35 years? I think that's a typo. It's 25.

Reason for listing as a 80 could be because 81 and newer require a seventeen digit VIN in the US. Listing early makes it easier to do. It is twenty-five years in the US. Shorter In Canada. It may be shorter here for Canadian vehicles if they were first registered in Canada. All the JDM cruisers there still need to be twenty-five years to import here.
