Hi guys, I got my 2006 lx470 steering shaft replaced and steering rack rebuilt days ago, since then I have problems with vgrs. vgrs Light comes up, solid, once awhile, the steering becomes uncentered.

If i turn off the ignition, most of the times the steering gets centered, and the light is off.

What could be the cause?
Does the steering shaft or steering rack affect the vgrs?

The steering rack is the original, the steering rack is from my mechanic supplier.
Is there a chance that the steering shaft is not compatible with vgrs?

Thanx in advance

OEM or aftermarket?
was the correct rack installed?
there are 3? versions thru the years

The steering rack is original. It was just rebuilt.

The shaft, the part with the yoke, is the one that is aftermarket. Does this affect vgrs?

just re-read the post above, they re-built the rack?
and
replaced the steering shaft?

there was a thread on the differences in the racks, there is a paint stripe,
they all look the same outside only difference is the color of the paint stripe

post # 5 in this thread:

I corrected my post, the rack is original.
But it was rebuilt. Not sure if that would affect anything

Correct, and steering shaft is aftermarket.

Even if I have had the non vgrs installed, several posts mention they did that, and they didn't notice any difference.

Others have noticed even with an original part, the steering became heavier, this happened to me and still don't know why.
Mines got the ring recall done, nothing changed , Lexus dealer mentioned the steering was normal in their opinion.

I still need to do this though, because my mechanic does not have tech stream :

"
may just need re-calibration. Until done and done correctly, VGRS light stays on and steering wheel has issue centering. Takes me about an hour to correct"

Still need to do this too , I will take it to another guy in a couple of weeks, he has tech stream :

"too have an 03LX which had VGRS light on, after snap ring recall service. Which would not correct by normal driving or clearing DTC. Nor just calibrating steering in tech stream. I had to do a full system re-calibration, including zero point. VGRS light now off, and does illuminate during key ON selftest."
