I've got an alternator bracket for sale from my 2/79 2F. It mounts on the passenger side, same as all 2F's. This year has the additional bolt to tension the alt. I will ship it to you for $30. Let me know if your interested.

Anyway Ive owned several pigs. I used to be somewhat active in some of the pig forums over the net, etc... I am in the process of buying another pig and would like to get rid of the ugly, heavy, PITA, tailgate. I realise the work involved ahead with a conversion. The only problem for me is finding a set. So I am putting out a feeler to see what might be out there. I have been pigless for about 3 years.

Have you ever ridden in a set of those? They are not comfy at all. Just like you said they are made out of hard plastic. They are really cheap though. If you want to see how they feel find someone with a drag race car most of them have them.
