Luke at 4x4labs makes bumpers for the 70. They don’t have a bull bar (which you can add) but I don’t think we have kangaroos here in North America unless you drive in a zoo.

I would...

Unfortunately, ARB lists for HZJ76 - available for 2007+ models. Note this is for the wider front (V8?). Will NOT work for earlier models.

Also, when I see something that "looks" as it'll work - the vehicle specific listing shows every HZJ model (70, 75, 79, etc.) except for the 76.

When I contacted ARB USA for information on which bar setup will work, I was told
"We support products for USDM Land Cruisers.
Perhaps you can try ARB Australia..."

All 70 series front bumpers for any iteration are the same up through the wide-nose introduction in 2007.

So you don't need to get one for a 76. You buy it for a 70/71/73/74/75/77/78/79 through 2007

My June trip out to Sanage Adventure Field Course in Nagoya was a dream come true. I was able to rent one of their 70s and head out on the course with a legendary instructor... these guys helped win the Dakar Rally. Ever since riding along in Onur's @OGBeno BJ on the trails of Rausch creek nearly 7 years ago (thanks again), I've always wanted to take a 70 out.

Sanage is a legendary Toyota affiliated test course not far from Toyota City and the Yoshiwara Toyota Autobody Arakawa plant of lore. I highly recommend this as a travel itinerary. Toyota City and Nagoya for the many Toyota museums, a trip out to Yoshiwara to see the trucks coming off the line out back and a trip to Sanage to take their trucks out on the courses. While the Yen USD exchange rate is at our advantage it's affordable. (This whole topic probably deserves its own thread).

I once saw a video with that 74 Series.

It is mounted on a rotisserie (not sure about the exact term) and it is used to explain the effects of lateral inclination. It was interesting to see how it "rotated."

Aside from this Sanage track, there's pretty much NOWHERE in Japan you can offroad... unless you rent some mud hills here and there. 99% of the LCs never end up offroad not even because of lack of desire - just because there's literally nowhere to offroad.

It sure is a blessing to have undamaged trucks for exporting them to places where the vehicles are needed for work or survival. So kind of lucky really. But it seems to me there are a few places to off road if you're willing to travel a bit within Japan.

I mean yeah, I guess for a country with 80% of its land mass being forests, there have to be SOME, but there are so many fences, private land, and asphalted roads that it truly is a challenge to find any sort of unpaved roads. Hokkaido is a bit easier, but yeah ... nobody goes there

Edit: @OGBeno I just asked Sanage staff over the phone. They say they do not have the ARACO 80 series there and they do not know where there might be any of them, but that there might be some somewhere. Hmmm...this may be a mystery worth pursuing. Might make a few more phone calls. The google AI says that Toyota Auto Body and the Toyota Automobile Museum have them in storage... only other thing I could find about this was a reference to you on Instagram... and full circle.

That’s some cool photos. For what it’s worth, my Land Cruiser shop guy used to custom build and race diesel (yes, diesel) 80s competitively. This isn’t the right thread for it so I won’t post, but he still has his race prep 80 in his garage. Told me stories about how he’d show up with it and people would be like “wtf?” and he’d go on to win races In his words, “after about 160 km/h or so, it actually starts handling pretty well!”

As of 2026, 70 Series Land Cruisers have been in production longer than any other Land Cruiser model.

The basic design has changed very little over the years. One might say that the designers of the 70 Series thought about almost every detail.

They have become a legend on their own right.
