Mini build thread about my experience setting up flipped arms on my 80

After getting the old brackets stripped off the housing I began mocking up the new mounts. This is the step where you set your castor angle. I went with +5 degrees measured off the kingpin races. You leave a little bit of the old mounts intact to reference where the new ones sit this way everything stays centered. I let the mounts loosley settle into place on the housing then tightened the bolts before tacking them in place.

Next step was welding all the bracing and mounts to the housing. It is critical that you weld the radius arm mounts with bolts tightened in place. I used a spare radius arm (red piece) to avoid the brackets warping although you could use bushings and get the same effect. During this stage I also got all the bracing / armor set up. Cannot thank welder homie enough for his work here!

Panhard mount required some modification. Rampt was kind enough to mirror the bracket for my LHD application. I still had some clearance issues with the pumpkin so I had to move it inwards an inch.

40mm bump stop extensions are required to keep the arms from hitting the frame rails. Not a huge loss in uptravel but this is required.

Got it fitted under the car then had to make custom brake lines. This was honestly one of the most annoying parts of the entire job I HATE making brake lines...

Nice!

Have you had it out yet? Like it?

I made my own. I spaced the radius arm brackets out a bit using chromoly weld washers. The idea being there is more room between the brackets for the radius arm bushings to flex and twist before binding on the mounts.

It’s in my build thread 80 series UTE.

Cheers

I went with slee 6" springs really pleased with the stance. Being able to retain the radius arm driving characteristics while increasing ground clearance and correcting castor angle has been super satisfying. At this point in the build Im waiting on longer shocks as my current ones are limiting suspension travel.

Ive driven it quite a bit and I really enjoy it. Much better handling than my previous 3" setup on castor bushings. Will have to get it offroad soon to see how it preforms on the trails. Washer idea is interesting I cant think of anydownsides.

Nice!

My Cruiser I did it under still isn’t on the road.

Cheers

Love seeing something like this taking place. When did you buy the kit and how much was shipping?

Got sent some photos of my chinese shocks. Supplier agreed to make these exactly to my desired spec (front shock absorber 790mm/470mm, rear shock absorber 790mm/490mm) Who knows how long it will take for them to show up...

I was applauding your work right up until this post. Your honesty is appreciated.

How much were these? I always think its interesting when people seek out alternatives.

Unless its Fox,King, or Icon, odds are the shocks or a component of the shock are sourced globally.

Even OME builds their BP-51's in Thailand.
