Help! Have a 77 Pig that I installed new Sony CD/radio using previous wiring harness---no cutting or splicing of any other wires. Used the in harness ground connection, instead of separate ground. New unit works great, but now my dash, parking, and rear lights don't work!:bang: Brake lights, turn signals, horn, headlights, and blower are all fine! Fuses are good and haven't had any smoldering wires. Any ideas? My first post ever, be gentle! Dave

check the ground connections at the firewall/body points. check ground jumpers from frame to body to engine for corrosion and even tho an ohm meter on either end of em to see if there is internal resistance. sometimes they can be bad inside and look ok outside(just like any of us:doh:)also check for resistance to ground of the light sockets. they get their grounds thru their reflector metal and oxidation/corrosion can impede the path to ground. might also be a good idea to ground you new equipment directly to a ground terminal of some kind. maybe even a jumper from the battery negative post/terminal?

oh yeah:flipoff2:welcome home. where are you? and post up some pics!

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll try the things that you suggested and let you know what I come up with.

:hhmm::hhmm:....Glad you posted up Dave (and welcome!!). I'm about to install a Pioneer head unit but I'm a 69 pig (will still check your problems when I do this over the weekend). I don't have a mounting kit or Tuffy box so will have to mod the original hole or consider alt location------I'm wondering if I may have a problem with the depth of the new unit hitting anything behind the dash when installed.

Good luck with your project and will check back in to see if you ended up rollin' with some tunes:cheers::cheers:

found the problem with my lights post radio install----------turned out to be something simple, a fuse. All the fuses looked good (none had blown), but this particular one was corroded on one end and was not allowing current to travel. Had nothing to do with the radio----just coincidence I guess! On to the next project out here in Washington. Pics in the future when I get the hang of MUDD Thanks Dave

The radio i installed was 8 and 1/2 inches in depth and I didn't have any problems with enough room. in fact there was even an inch or two to spare. Hope that helps! Dave

Good job Dave. I probably won't cut my dash but need to find a bracket to go under the dash (moving the ashtray).

Yes I did have to widen the dashboard opening about a quarter inch on either side. It had already been widened with the previous Pioneer radio. Used a Rigid Job Max saw and it went pretty well. Good luck with yours!
