Gentlemen,

I own a 79 with a recently installed SBC 350. New (recored) radiator is due for pick-up next week.

Two quick questions: Did the '79 come with a radiator shroud - mine does not have presently have one....

If not, is/are there any retro fit shrouds from other trucks that are known to fit in the '79?

I will post info and pics of my ongoing radiator saga next week as it has been an aggravating, and expensive affair for me at least.

Thanks in advance for any info,

Jeff

79's did come with a shroud. there is little to no chance that the factory 2F shroud is gonna work with a SBC 350 conversion. engine placement as far as the fan is concerned and fan size would need to be nearly the same for it to work out.

Did you recore the goofy 2 core rad found in 79's?

Thanks for all the info.
I did see that SOR has a shroud for $85.00, but based on the info I received from 'cruiserbrett' tells me to hang on to my $85.00 for now.
I did try an aluminum 3 core from Advanced Adapters. It looked real nice and I'm sure it would cool well: too bad it wouldn't fit - not even close. For $550 I expect it to fit with little to no modification. Now, I'm having a local radiator shop (Greenwood Radiator) recore the original with some additional tweeks to improve cooling. This was not my preference, however, this shop works frequently with FJ40s and occasional 55s with the SBC 350 conversions and claims no problems with cooling. He did suggest the use of a shroud so I'll be getting with a local 55 owner 'hicruise55' (PM sent) to see if we can hook up and see how close or far a stock shroud works for my SBC.

Thanks again guys.

Jeff
