I also picked up one of those HF racks for 39 bucks a couple of years ago. I cut it down to fit between my tail lights. I can carry 2 jerry cans, and my 5gal water jug with room to spare. I couldn't buy the materials for that cheap.

I have a couple patents. This would fall under the category of, "obvious to those skilled in the art".
