im sorry about your rig :( I hope ya get one soon or rebuild this one. good luck man

Holy hell, that is some crappy news. Sorry about your rig. Let's hope lots of parts can be salvaged to live on installed in Moby 2.0 aka Nazareth!

totally sucks! sorry to hear, but remember, you can rebuild bigger and better. good luck to ya. hope that a lot turns out to be salvagable.:frown:

Wow... That is tragic, Joel had one of the nicest cruisers around and put a lot of time and effort into this rig. It will take some time to recover... If you ever come to terms with the loss, then I definitely look forward to the build thread

Sorry for your loss! I hope you'll find a new Cruiser soon. The game is not over...

Was it insured? I'm sure people will think I'm crazy but my 62 is fully insured for accidents like yours. Because its an 89, full coverage is really cheap and it gives me peace of mind.

Only one word comes to mind, damn!

I do hope that you'll decide, when the time is right, to use what is salvageable and build another truck.

man that bites....

As others stated already.. time to rebuild...

Fenders hood dash and gauges and a new (used) engine or different heart all together....

That just plain sucks. I too had a fire earlier this year and was fortunate to catch it and put it out with only minor damage. Like Elbert, I had a spal controller and that's what started mine. It was fused like it should have been too. My empathy to your loss.

Awful story, especially around the holidays.

You might be interested in a aussie film called "Love the Beast". Good film about a gear head and his devotion to his car.

Best of luck

Very sorry, just glad it was not parked in your garage and took out your house. Lots of clean 60's out there. Hope to see you with another one soon!

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all of the positive thoughts! It was strange to not have a cruiser project to work on today.

I think that we've decided to sell our '99 A4 and get a new car. That will give me the time to find the right starting point for the next project. Ideally I'm looking for a 62 without an engine that needs no body work (I had all the rust cut out of Moby a year ago - I won't go down that path again). Should be a snap to find one of those, right? :D

Boots - I'm so happy to hear that you were able to catch yours in time! I followed your build from the beginning.

Keep this one ... And swap in a veeate :)

Perhaps we all ought to be looking into racing type fire suppression systems? Probably wouldn't have helped unless someone knew it was there and how to activate it, but would help if there were trouble while we were there.

Sorry to hear about this, and I also look forward to seeing what you come up with next. I'll take a look at all the e-crap I've got in mine now. This is a good wake up call...

I'm very sorry to see another FJ62 bite the dust. Perhaps like others have said you can rebuild, then change the name from Moby the Great White Whale to Phoenix, out of the ashes!!

Wow! I'm very sorry to hear about this man! Hope you are able to salvage a lot of stuff from this. As for trying to find that 62 you are looking for, where are you located. In my recent search for a 60 here in the south east I did happen to come across atleast 2 62s that had no rust but were not running. I can try and find those ads again if you are near by.

Joel, I'm really sorry to hear of your truck's demise. Glad that no one was hurt in the fire. I'm also saddened reading of the loss of your old Golden pal Hunter. Having lost our younger Golden right before Thanksgiving, I know how much it hurts. Dogs do seem to love the Cruisers as much as we do. You have my sympathies.

My condolences, that's really tragic. At least it sounds like you had a great run and some true adventures. Better that it would go up when parked, I suppose.
