As I tear into the 55 I have found it has been repainted at least once with a color close to factory blue. But under door & tailgate hinges I am finding what I thought was Nebula green. I got some PPG samples mixed up and its not close. I only find the green under areas that would not see any type of top coat color.

I was starting to think it was originally nebula green, but I was not finding any of it as I sanded thru the layers of blue/white paint. I went ahead and got some PPG Nebula Green for 1974 mixed and its not close at all to the green color I am finding. So I am starting to think it might be a factory primer Toyota was using. Has anyone else came across this on there trucks?

Take a look at the color comparisons I did in my thread. I thought my green looked closer to Breathe or Fashion green, but they were never offered on Pigs.

Also look at my Pig parked next to Jim's, which is also Nebula Green. The two are not really close.

That green on yours may have changed over the years as well...

I got Fashion Green mixed up in PPG as well, still pretty far off on the color. I was just figuring I would have found it sanding somewhere thru the layers of paint. Did Toyota even use primer back then ? lol...

Also... I found that paint "swatch" painted on the inside of the tailgate. I think I remember reading that Toyota always painted a small brush stroke on the inside of truck of the color they originally paint it.

EDIT* bob posted while I was typing... lol mind reader.

In any case the green "primer" is weird. The truck is pretty clean, I've only noticed one respray so far. Just wondering if anyone else ran into this.

Thanks again guys!
