At this point the FJ40 is really coming along!!! Now we have to start making some serious decisions based on what we want to do with this beast as far as powertrain, suspension, electronics etc...

Jason and I take the next several months throwing ideas around... What we come up with would delay us a little bit... almost 2 years! We would need to gather the proper parts which at this time Covid is in full swing and we are having a hard time finding bread let alone custom LandCruiser parts... That being said, we knew going this route would make for the ULTIMATE Expedition FJ40... and that's what we wanted... So here's the rundown and what we decided on...

Power plant changes to a 1FZ-FE for 80 series power!!!
Bellhousing from FJ Company
H55F 3:1 transfer keeping OD
Extend the wheelbase 3+ inches
80 series style suspension
Dual Long Range fuel tanks...
Brown Davis 35 gallon (under front seats)
Long Range America 21 gallon (behind the axle)
Late model firewall.....
and a few more goodies you will have to stay tuned to see!!!

Thank you!! We will keep it coming as we can. I'm sure that Jason will be adding to this also. He has tons of photos.

Mock up if the 80series front axle. We will be using the correct delta radius arm once ride height is set and caster is measured. Rear is a triangulated 4 link

Jason is great. If he’s restoring the FJ40, I have no doubt it will be perfect!
No doubt. He is one of the very few if not the only person I know that I would trust to build my dream rig.

with needing room for the 1fz and also able to upgrade to much nicer brakes we opted to change firewall to later design. Finally got it back from sand blaster today so we can get going with the swap

So.... what changes were made in later model firewalls that allow for a better swap?

Brake master cylinder sets, father toward , driver-side it also allows for the use of a bigger brake booster. If you notice the early model, the brace ran straight up and down the later model bends the brace way over towards the driver side.

Sweet build.
If I had a bare 80 front axle housing in my hands ready for a custom build, I would cut and turn the ends to set caster so the pinion angle is perfect at the same time.
