'95 but will be running aftermarket wheels requiring 60 degree conical lug nuts (like the older 80s). Going for a subdued look so can't use silver chrome or anything remotely bling. Would like to avoid stripping-and-plating just to change the color. Also thinking to run lock nuts, which rules out stock as well, at least on some studs.

Must be SOMEbody out there who's OCD about making quality lug nuts...

im pretty sure that there were black or a darker factory lug not available, not the chrome. if your ordering off of a site like tire rack usually they have a recommended lug nut set that works well and is matched to the rim you'll have
personally im not a huge fan of wheel locks, keys missing when you need, key breaks, ect. but if you are going for wheel locks and factory will fit go with that, if you lose a key any dealer will have a master set and be able to take them off. if your going to go aftermarket with the wheel locks, gorilla or mcguard. mcguard make the factory wheel locks anyways so their not bad

There are factory locking lug nuts?

There are factory locking lug nuts?

yes, they would have to be special ordered for your truck as dealership is going to have in stock locks for only current vehicles. they should be able look it up and order it. if not you may be able to use the wheel locks for a rav4 with steelies its also a taper fit lug

the locking ones are pointless, very easy for anyone to take off with a hammer, oversized socket and a ratchet. I used to use them until I realized how much they just got in the way.

Depends on the situation.

When i bought my rig, i didn't realize it had gorilla locks.

Whoever put the wheels on it that were on it when i bought it spent something like $1200. I am not convinced that my teflon-coated mojaves would sell for more than the cost of a set of four pristine factory alloys + mount and balance for all four corners. But i think they might be worth enough that an opportunist may just decide to take them. So the locks stay.

Anyway. When i went to get tires put on it, the tire guys asked where the key was. I told them i have no idea, and started trying to get the guy i bought it from on the phone. They said they could get them off anyway.

Then 10 minutes later they came back and said it turns out they can't get them off. Then the guy called me back and told me where the key is.

The lug wells on the AR Mojaves are tight enough that many 19mm impact sockets don't fit, let alone a size larger even in thin wall.

So I'm pretty sure that in my situation, short of welding something onto the cap of the nut, the gorilla locks are going to keep the wheels on.

I really should buy a couple more keys.
