I have verified that as Wayne and others have said, a very effective way to manage EGT's is to increase RPM up hills or under load. It drops EG temps almost immediately. This EGT management driving is very different from driving a gas powered vehicle.

the whole idea of a EGT gauge is to give you an idea of what is happening inside yor engine, whether you run before or after is not as important as to learning how to drive properly to keep the EGTs down...
if ou are driving just below the red all the time then it is time to adjust your driving technique...

Understood! Yeah I'm not driving just below or at the red all the time. I hope I didn't give that impression. I'm just learning better ways to keep it further from the red and avoid getting there as much as possible. :)

Martin, i wasn't refering to anyone in particular... i have never seen how you drive so that would be a bit ignorant of me...it was just a blanket statement...

That's funny, no offence taken. I appreciate all your help since I bought my truck. Just don't want you to think I thrash it!

It is off of a Ford pick up with a 6.0L powerstroke. Banks was dumping a lot for $50 each on ebay. Blessings come in strange forms. :)
