Cam tower leak from what i've heard there are 3 spots it's been known to leak oil. Sometimes people notice it by oil dripping down on the skids. Sometimes it drips onto the exhaust and they smell burnt oil. I have the leak myself, but mine is on passenger side basically just above the top of the shock. It's pretty common a lotta Tundra guys have it on the 5.7. Something to do with the glue used to seal degraded over time. As you can tell from pics, very labor intensive if you do want to fix. zI personally just keep an eye on it and check my oil level regularly, never been low so it's just a small leak. I've never had any oil on my skids nor smelled burnt oil though. Just get a flashlight and look around for it, could be on any side where the seal is. The photo im showing is looking through the passenger wheel well

Thank you again @DPA200 ! I feel like I am learning so much from your posts and commentary (and that of others, too). Thank you for taking the time to do the "teaching moment".

any updates @cmcollar ?
It's funny you should ask. I just posted a thread asking if anyone was near Jacksonville, FL that could look at it for me. They've been very good at answering my questions. They now are going to put it on a lift to check the condition of the front lower control arm bolts and the KDSS adjustment bolts. I've also asked them to check for the infamous cam tower leak.

The only other significant item not replaced is the starter. I could use that in negotiation....

Thanks for asking. You are living vicariously here aren't you?

Chris

vicariously indeed. shopping for 200's is fun. Sounds like the plan is all coming together

FYI checking the control arm bolts will mean loosening them and upsetting the alignment. They may be reluctant to do that. Given the amount of visible corrosion I wouldn't be worried about it, but if they are willing, take them up on confirming. But, unless they provide evidence of an alignment after the fact, don't be surprised if there are some front end quirks that need addressing. I can imagine a tech cutting corners and marking the bolt adjuster location then just putting it back to their marks after confirming movement. This isn't good enough.

Starter PM is WAY outside the bounds of what most people consider necessary. Wouldn't surprise me if it hasn't been done, but nice icing on the cake if it has.

It's fairly normal for these trucks to be slow to engage reverse if they've been sitting for a week or more. Mine does this regularly, despite the transmission being rock solid in every other way. So some transmission quirks causing service visits can be non-issues.

it seems like a solid truck. As for what it's worth, I'm a lot less help.

Update - this LC apparently sold last night while I was in final discussions with my salesperson.

Thank you to all that have chimed in to help me with this process. The search continues....

Chris

So sorry to hear that. Plz let me know if you want me to search the local wholesale auctions to see if there are any trade-ins. It's a different buying experience all together. But you can save big!

Don’t lose any sleep over it, it was $3-$4k overpriced anyway.
I disagree with your 3-4k statement, but we're all entitled to our opinions.

When you find a 2011 LC in that condition with 133K miles with virtually everything done to it in the last 25,000 miles (including tires, spark plugs, battery, front and rear brakes, radiator, drive belt, water pump, tranny flush, radiator flush), for $24,000 - $25,000 , please let me know. I'll come look at it...

$24k probably not but $25-$26k No problem I’ve seen several but wasn’t in the market. If that one you were looking at was 2013 or newer I could see $29-$31k but not for a 2011.
