Lurch from 1st to 2nd gear? I haven't read about that in the 6 speed auto and mint is buttery smooth.

Yeah, that jump the car does from 1st to 2nd mostly when the engine/transmission is cold. Ranges from mild "was that a bug?" to "damn, who hit me from behind?". General consensus on the forums here has been the large difference between gear ratios (correct term?) which I believe got even greater with the new transmission. I think the thought regarding the difference is that the new transmission was moreso for towing performance rather than MPG, given it doesn't really provide any documented MPG difference and the higher gear ratio provides more torque at lower gears? I could have my terms all wrong there, but the idea stands.

Hmm even after starting my 14 after it's been sitting all day in zero degree weather it's never shifted harshly whatsoever in any gear change 1-2 or other. Maybe I'm lucky, but I don't recall reading that about the ubiquitous 6 speed.

Just going off reports here, the 2016 is my first LC so I don't personally have experience to compare.

New 8 speed transmission...

My 2015 Tahoe with a 6-speed is constantly hunting for gears and was completely different than my 100 series which always found it's gear though 1-2 could be quite slow and long winded at times.

Something tells me that if this is your first LC it might just the driving dynamics of it that are new. LCs definitely have character traits, such as loud fan noises at low speeds.

Interested in this thread from a prospective 200 Series owner.

The head...read wallet says 2013-15, and the heart says 2016 and up.

A lot of 'mods/upgrades' can be done to the 13-15 which would make it 'street/offroad' tough for the price of a '16. Talking AUD $, in which it is a case of giving up your next newborn, or selling a kidney, and that's for a high(ish) mileage one.

Hello everyone,

I'm coming off owning a 100 series that I loved.

I have a 62 that is my build out and project vehicle. It's very close to being fully completed, maybe another 3-4 years timeframe and it's done (inside, outside, and underneath).

I'm contemplating either finding a nice low mileage 2013-2015 or possibly jump to a 2016.

I was curious about opinions between these and just your general thoughts about them as daily drivers and with taking the kids on the occasional outdoors trip.

What are the main differences between these years? I will continue my search of threads but thought I'd post up.

Thanks!
I was in the same boat; had a 2016 Suburban which I traded in my 2007 LC for. Biggest mistake ever. Wanted more room which I got, but for the 3 months I owned it that pile of junk was in the shop. Long story short got my money back. Anyway, looked at 2013-2015 LC's but got a heck of a deal on a 2017. The upgrades on the interior and the exterior (especially the front end) sold me.

No complaints with either transmission here and I drive them back to back all the time. I like the more current interior, better ergonomics, big NAV screen, in-dash infotainment like radar etc and LED headlights on the '16 more than anything. My wife's fav feature is the birds eye view for parking. She can now park as good as me LOL. Headlights are easy to upgrade but some of those other items not so much.

I have a 2013 LC and previously owned a sequoia with a larger back seat and more legroom. My issue with the 2016 are those built in dvd screens protruding from the backs of the front seats. I have a 5 and 8 year old and when walking them through busy parking lots or parallel parking, both kids will typically climb in from the same side. Now if one kid has to crawl over the other, which happens regularly, that 6" of less space to move through there becomes a daily issue.

I have the same concern too...have a 10 & 6. Somehow I see those displays as entry handles for them hoist up into the vehicle

We have a 5yo and 9yo that ride in our 2016 every day, including 6000+mi over 3 weeks this summer. Screens are fairing fine and proven to be a non-issue with ingress/egress. Biggest thing on the screens is that we NEVER actually use them. We had to have iPads for long road trips in the 100 years ago so that's what we are used to and they are just flat out more functional. Rear entertainment is IMO a very dated concept and I'd rather not have the screens either but I can say the kids get around them just fine as do our parents who are well into their 60's.

@superdave74 We also traded in an '08 Sequoia to get the '16! :) Biggest thing I miss about the Sequoia is the cargo area room and the fold flat 3rd row. Biggest thing I don't miss about the Sequoia was that hideous dash. Probably the least favorite dash layout of any vehicle I've ever owned, and thats alot of cars!

Yeah the dash is essentially the same as the Tundra and I was not a fan of my Tundra dash either. Very cheaply made and poorly laid out.

My 8 and 5yos do this all the time. Though I always preach, and just wait... cause one of them is going to get their fingers shut in door, has almost happened already as the one doesn't always see the other coming and starts to close the door.

Anyone have links to the removal of the screens on a 16?

I acutually came up from an 03 Sequoia and while I didn't think I'd miss the cargo space, I went to buy a few wooden rails (11' each) for a split rail fence, normally I'd roll down the back window on the sequoia and set the ends between the front seats and the other ends out the back. I got there in the LC and before even buying, decided I needed a plan B. Guessing out the back of the LC, they'd be sticking out a few feet further and pointing down due to the low tailgate, then the thoughts of the top window portion of the door slamming down over a bump got me thinking a utility trailer might be a good investment.

I'd like and see the appeal of the dual monitors over the lump in the ceiling, just not sure why they didn't design them to slide into the seatback or incorporate into the head rest.

We have an '03 also lol (and the dash is superior in every way to the second gen sequoias). I kept that one and we use it at my business. You are right the rear window absolutely has its days of "best idea ever". My first taste of that was on an 87 4Runner and was really the only thing I missed on the LC platform. That being said I do love the split tailgate design also, especially when camping. Just something about having a tailgate.

Go snag a set of quality ratchet straps for the lumber and throw it on the roof rack. It's too hot for open air driving in the Carolinas right now anyway! :hillbilly:

The rear screens are easy to remove. Just pop off the plastic trim piece on the base, remove 3 nuts, and unplug 2 wire sets. Takes just a few minutes each. There are threads on here with photos if you need them. But fair warning, it leaves a hideous hole in the seat that so far has defied a clean looking solution. Right now the holes in mine are covered with a black foam insert, awaiting the time to fabricate a nice looking solution.

Get the cleanest low mile rig you can find. California has many clean rigs as it has not rained much 4 out of 5 years.
BOOM.

I've come to this conclusion and am on the hunt : )

That's the best part!
