Interesting. So you were able to easily access the frame holes on the driver side to drill out and install rivnuts? No issues?

Yup, the plastic is all off - I'm just stumped at how you were able to fit a drill in between the frame and the quarter panel to bore the holes out for rivnut insertion - there is just so little space for working on the top two holes.
Maybe you are overthinking it. Looking at it again you are right that there is little room but I don’t ever remember having any hold ups.

I guess I am just out of luck - no combination of any tool I have with the drill bit can fit in there for me to do this. I am so stumped. Thanks for your time and the picture.

Idk, but the holes don’t have to be perfect, just enough to insert the rivnut and squish them in.

I didn’t do those four bolts on mine, just the bottom as slee states in the directions. Has seen action with no issues for almost 3 years

Oh wow, no kidding! Well this is good to know. I purchased my bumper this year and the directions say to wallow out those holes and use rivnuts in them for bolts.. Hm apparently not exactly needed? Thanks for sending this - good to hear your bumper is doing just fine without them. Thanks again!

The bumper is redesigned so likely why the directions are different. They definitely changed their directions as they clearly and specifically state they need to be enlarged and used. My guess is they had people calling in with issues. I’ve had my bumper for a couple years so they changed this a while ago.

@rannon maybe give Slee a call and see what there thoughts are and whether you can skip them.

@JoeCova thanks for the information - I'll give them a buz and figure out their thoughts. By the way, do you remember how you were able to get a drill in between the frame and the body under there to enlarge those holes? There is only 6 inches of space to work with. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Gen 2 you used to drill. Newest gen 3 which I believe was in 2020 is what I have currently, I went by the directions, maybe they have changed but at the time I bought mine they did not provide anything other than bottom bolt. Just call slee Ben can tell you how to do it

I don't have this bumper, but could you use a right angle drill and a short drill bit?

Do you have a tube ladder or the flat 200 series ladder?

Honestly I think I just drilled them out at an angle and didnt think about it. The holes dont have to be perfect, just enough to hammer the rivnut in and crimp it down.

Looks like the latest revision was March 2023.

Yup definitely different than my instructions for the same bumper.
I know they also changed the latch and Christo told me to drill that out and add a stop bolt for proper tension. I believe I got in on the first run of the newer style bumper.

I've tried getting a combination of something like this but there's only 6 inches to work with and the right angle drill I rented was still too big. I found a solution I think with a 1/2" bit that I'll just hand file up to the size after I get the holes to 1/2".

Duct tape.
OK, GOOD duct tape...

If people were having issues you’d see stuff like that being posted here where people like to complain about he smallest things. This bumper is literally built like a tank. You can skip those four side bolts and probably remove ten other bolts and you’ll be just fine…

Ok that is what my gut was telling me - I put the two bottom ones in and moved on - thanks for the peace of mind.
