Replacing gaskets and noticed that there is a large puddle of fuel in the bottom of the intake manifold when i pull the carb off. About 2 tablespoons of fuel.Is this normal?

If you have been manipulating the throttle linkage, it will spray fuel into the manifold and if this is done a couple times, it will pool up on the floor of the intake manifold.

Depending on the time frame of when the truck last ran, and the particular carb in question, this is not totally unusual. As air continues to move through the open valves of the still-hot cylinders, it moves past the emulsifiers in the carb, drafting fuel.

Make sense?

Its a 2 jet rochester. I thinking im gonna rebuild it, so i can at least familiarize myself with it and to make sure its not the needle/seat. If fuel still puddles, then its probably normal as Mark stated. Thanks.

Why some carbs leak fuel into the manifold is a bit of a mystery to me. Mine didn't have anything to do with engine heat. I could crank it cold with the coil wire disconnected to fill up the carb bowl, let it sit and it would leak out overnight into a puddle on the bottom of the manifold. Since all the fuel passages have an air vent hole that is open at the top, siphoning doesn't seem possible.
I'm thinking it is maybe a surface tension effect, like when you put a piece of paper over the side of a water bowl and watch it wick up and drip from the outside. Sounds as good a theory as anything else I could come up with.

or the float is sticking or out of adjustment. Mine was so far out of adjustment one time that it would fill the carb bowl and spill over into the manifold. not saying thats your problem but may be a possibility...
