please. help. got pto unit 1993 prado bolted on g/box pto not turning /gear in trans mybe to small? ? gears in pto not touching gear in box!!! do i need some other part or parts? /?/? any help, thanks :hhmm:

dunno about the prados specifically but in 40 and 70 series split transfer cases not all of them had the pto drive gear installed, some just had a spacer on the shaft instead, did you have a look to see if you had the drive gear in the transfer case before you bolted the pto on :hhmm:

thanks for your reply. well your right bottom gear is the one i was told by a toyota expert???? can a gear be fitted on to shaft. got a pto unit from australia cost me a load of cash to get it shipped to ireland. well thanks again hope you can advise me? ????

Yep just have to find yourself a pto drive gear and short spacer or a gear and turn down the long spacer that's already on the shaft, you can do it all in place its all pretty straight forward you have to pull the rear housing off the transfer case to put the gear in, we did one of mine while the gearbox/transfer case was out and stood it on end to do it that made it a lot easier but you can still do them in place ok :)

Yup as above. That is what I did...
You pull the transfercase apart until you get to this point...
And as you can see in the upper L/H of the photo.. The pto gear is installed...
It goes on the main input shaft (output from trans) ....

That other gear you could see in the previous photo runs on a idler shaft...Which has been removed in this photo...

Have fun !

Thanks a million for all the information and photos - so all is not lost. Justn can't seem to get anything for Toyotas in this part of the world - as I said PTO came from Australia - now I'll search for PTO Gear - any suggestions as to where I might start my search? Are you aware of any members who might have similar for sale? - would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks again for all of the above - Tony Ralph.

thanks a mil for all your help. think i got it sorted toyota in dublin said they have the parts in stock.? just one thing will the gear fit the shaft in the transfare box and how is held in place. the part numbers ware a great help. onece again thanks.

If you look at the photo I posted of the case in bits...
The gear is held in place by the bearing which is held in place by the nut...
You will need a gear / bearing puller to remove the bearing...
Once you get to that stage its prettly simple...
Remove the nut.
Remove the gear.
Remove the spacer.
Put on new short spacer.
Put on PTO gear.
Install bearing.
Install nut and stake it...
Put the box back together....

What you want to do is download a manual which has the tear down and rebuild of the transfercase...

T/cas off bearing off spacer off new spacer on gear on bearing on? ??? Small spring and ballbearing fell out of case /need your help again. Thanks

That would have come from the shift detent at the top of the box. You will be able to put it back in removing a bung...Once its all assembled.
Did you down load a manual?
As it shows it in there....

Pedal can be tightened up with the two jam nuts in the engine bay on the throttle cable. Follow the cable from the fire wall and you can't miss it....
As for glow light... It only glows for a few seconds and sometimes a split second... So sometimes you miss it..
As long as it starts ok and runs smooth.... no issues.

Thats as long as you are describing the glow light....
