Ps pump blown

I looked at your photos and several others on the internet. The hole that you point to with the stick appears to be oriented parallel to the engine block and I think it's a hole for the upper mounting stud which means you may be leaking engine oil instead of PS fluid.

I'm sure that you are aware of the differences in PS fluid and engine oil but, based on your photos and the fact I'm not in a position to look at my own cruiser, that's what it looks like to me.

Just from looking at pictures, it looks like that hole is the left over from drilling some fluid passage in the casting, so it may have a pressed in plug. It doesn't look threaded. If the plug is still there, maybe you can whack it and reseal it.

This is from a '96 FZJ manual

That hole has a factory plug pressed into it, not serviced, need another pump. Not a common failure, but has happened a few times..

How about using some epoxy or JB weld on that plug when you install it.

thanks for all the help here!

Managed to wedge a plug in the hole and jb welded over the hole thing - looks pretty solid but lets see how long it holds up.

Have some power back to steering - along with a very noisy PS pump.......

It will need to be "burped" "bled" like your brake lines, any air it there and it will be noisy.

JB weld is good stuff!

350 miles and holding!

Home!
That's awesome! You were lucky to find the plug before it fell completely out and disappeared.

I didn't find it actually - I ended up at the napa auto parts store and they gave me what someone told me was a freeze plug for an engine block that fit just perfect - I lightly tapped it into the hole and the pasted a load of JB weld on top and around the hole - so far so good!

Again - thanks all for the help here - turns out power steering is actually quite useful! Made for a far easier ride home that's for sure!

My local NAPA store is awesome. Glad you found a good one also.

Here you go - the offending part.

My jb weld job is pointed out by the arrow!

If your out in the field and you lose power steering - if its pouring out of this hole - wedge something in there - use jb weld to hold it all in - worked for me to get me home!
