My lx gets a lot of abuse during winter. I can't get it home without being covered in snow, ice, salt, mag cl. It sits like that in my garage every day.

Last couple years I have been using nu finish on the paint and fluid film on the underside. Fluid film is some amazing stuff if you can get past the smell. It has completely controlled the rust. I usually don't spray off the underside during winter to just keep it protected.

My paint is holding up well too. The thing that is taking a beating is all the chrome. The strips on the doors are spotted and rusting. The logos are bubbling and peeling. The door handles are holding up well so far.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to protect the chrome?

I’m in Alaska and had ceramic pro gold done 3 years ago on my LX. It wasn’t cheep but it is awesome for protection. Like it so much had my wife’s new Tesla done last year even before we brought it home.

There are paint sealants on the market which will be more durable, and last longer than traditional waxes and can be used on chrome / glass, ect.

I use Klasse from Germany. It's worked for me in Pennsylvania.

I was wondering about the undercoatings for winter climates. Has anyone got long-term, say 10+ years, on salt roads using Fluid film? Does keep undercarriage rust at bay over the long term?

@Steve1 If you're talking about doing something once, and forgetting about it - then, no. Nothing will keep a truck good for 10 years without maintenance.

Fluid film, if applied properly in the spring and fall will keep your truck good forever.

2 application per year. Okay, not too bad. How much is each application?

I just did my LX recently. Applied three cans on the underside, and a fourth can inside the frame.

$44 on amazon for a gallon. It's worth buying the spraying kit though which was about $100. It's way easier and more effective then rattle can.

Some say Fluid Film has a smell, can't comment myself on that but the 80 guys have also found Wool Wax. Same material as the Fluid Film, but an additional step to remove the smell.

Coupon Code is in the tread for a MUD Discount.

One of these rattle can handle kits is a must for any rattle can use. Makes application a million times easier and more precise.
