OK, out of these 3 60's I should be able to build at least one or two decent ones. The plan is to build a trail truck and a daily driver. The new to me HJ I just picked up is a beaut, 2H turbo'd, auto, OME, 4.56's. Of course it has a bit of a motor problem, frame is rusty, body is in pretty good shape. I have a donor driveline (2H, 5 spd, T-case) that will be going into a JDM frame (which I already have), plunking the HJ body on top (with a 2" body lift) adding some body armour and it should be ready to go.
The other HJ body sitting in the yard (two tone) will get dropped onto the BJ frame (after some cleaning) it'll sport a 3B, 5 spd, 4.11's. This will happen after the trail truck is built. I hope to turbo the 3B at some point as well.
Sure would be nice to have a shop, but I'm sure I'll manage. Redreefer has offered his assistance which will be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a good project.Should have a couple of great rigs when you're done.
If you end up with a couple of spare parts at the end let me know.I need a complete front bumper,a skid plate and a couple of misc. parts.
Good luck.

I'm really pleased to see Al's HJ being brought back to life. It was a really sweet truck before the rust demons (and the un-cooled piston skirts) had their way with it. I came really close to buying it last year, but in the end it was just too big a project for me. Sure gave me wagon fever for while there though.

Here's another shot of it.

Hey Phil, are you interested in getting rid of the turbo stuff for the 2H?

I'd be happy to take it off your hands. :)

Not that I'll have a chance to test the turbo right away, I'm sure it will suck ;)
I'll let you know... when I'm looking at ya in the mirror

Still working on the "facility" to house the project. Which is nothing more than a CDN Tire 12' x 20' canopy sitting on a wooden foundation. Better than nothing, but it's taking a bit of time. I'll start posting pictures when the real work begins.

The benefit of living here is that it does not get stupid cold or lots of snow. We had one of those large tents on metal pipes and even during the winter with a medium sized propane heater you can work there nicely. Everything was great until the last wind storms we had and it became a lousy parachute. We had the damn thing so well secured that the upright posts stayed in the ground but the roof posts actually ripped and went into the neighbours yard. Funny to watch, lousy to clean up.

OK, time to "resurrect" this thread.
Rob and I did a quick check of the current 2H in "Silver" (once again, my kids named her). Yes indeed #3 cylinder is dead. As you know "FunOne" just died, so I'm already going through 'cruiser with-drawl, luckily Rob has lent me "Blue" to tide me over. My grandiose plans have been scaled back (what else is new). Due to time and money restraints, Rob and I will be slamming the donor motor into Silver, sans 5 spd or turbo. I don't know the current condition of the donor 2H, so it makes more sense to get it up and running stock, then start doing the mods. Today I pretty much prepped Silver for engine removal. It never ceases to amaze me how difficult auto manufactures can make things. For instance, you have to almost remove the A/C condenser to get the rad out. I don't want to break any A/C hoses, if I'm lucky the A/C will still blow cool.

Are you still doing the frame swap, or just testin this motor for a while?

:frown:Sorry to hear about the 3b blowup, knock on wood mines still tickin, let us know what you find out so we can apply some preventative maintanence

Yup, frame swap will be in the works. The frame on Silver is getting thin. The 5 speed swap is quite a lot of work, I noticed that Silver is missing a pedal and master cylinder on the firewall. I'll fix up the JDM frame and drop the other body (Clementine) onto it. This body was a 5 spd, so all the gak is still attached. I could install the 5 spd and tranny, so in the end all I would need to do is swap the 2H into Clementine at a later date, or if I found another good used 2H I could put it in or I could rebuild the 2H I have and put it in.

Soo, as usual things haven't gone as planned. The 2H-5spd won't exactly be a straight swap for a 2H-auto. The fuel cut off between the two is quite different, the 5 spd motor uses an EDIC, the auto uses a VSV. That was a show stopper. After a call or two, EBI had the donor 2H I needed. On Friday I went by and picked up the donor. Then out to Ciaran/Rob's shop to pick up the gantry. That night we assembled the gantry.
Saturday was a full on "out with the old, in with the new". We put in around 13 hours this day.

Sunday was more of the same, we put in another 12 hours, but in the end we heard her running. I still didn't have the rad in (or a lot of other gak) but it was a feeling of satisfaction.
