For those who are not TLCA members, I’d really encourage you to join. It is a great publication and always has very in-depth Land Cruiser content that’s you can’t find anywhere else. As I mentioned back in September, our central Colorado mountain trip made the magazine in the January/February 2020 issue. It was an excellent trip.

It looks like fun trip! Lake City, Gunnison, and Crested Butte are all also really fun places to visit.

Just got my issue in the mail a day or two ago. Great article and photos Carson.

Ha! Old man. I got mine 2 days ago via digital download! Being born in 1962 I'm just young enough to beat you old timer's to the punch but generally respectful enough not to say so. Today my inhibitions are moderated by a healthy dish of Pollo Picante that my wife made which is always accompanied by multiple glasses of wine. Don't worry as I would give Commander Armstrong the same business being as is he is an old timer too.

Though it may be hard to believe, Cousin Lee is even older than I am!

Yes and he is a debonair devil. Kathy is a lucky woman that he is so devoted to her as the lasses on his travels have tried and tried.

I always wish he’d finish his Rustbucket tale. That is one of my favorite reads of all time.

I got the neighbor’s old tractor stuck today while plowing some snow on the back road. I made the cold hike home, fired up Pikachu, and grabbed my snatch block and tree saver after getting the wife’s 100 Series stuck on the first attempt with a strap. This is a steep little road despite what the pic shows.

This is mainly bragging about the Warn 8274-50. I ran a double line pull and it yanked that tractor out of the snow with ease. Impressive winch.

I have used mine to pull a neighbor's tractor out of almost axle-deep mud. He did not think it would do it, but it popped it right out without breaking a sweat.

I’m always looking for little parts here and there to make this FJ40 complete. So this past week, I found a nice old original jack and handles on Craigslist. Got the handles mounted up today just because I’ve always enjoyed dorking out on originality. They are gonna stay in original paint.

Pikachu is beginning to come out of hibernation and I’m looking forward to some great trips around the West this summer.

Today, my son and dog and I ran over to do some scouting and have father/son time in Buffalo Peaks Wilderness. We drove to the border and hiked in. Met a guy back in there who had just found a really nice moose antler/paddle from this season. We enjoyed conversation with him while my son marveled at how heavy the thing was. Wish I’d taken a picture of it.

The dog discovered some natural “treats” in elk and coyote remains.

Scenery wasn’t too bad either.

The 40 ran like a Swiss clock, as always.

My wife dodged a bullet today when I didn't come home with another 40, at least not yet.

I was cruising some back roads in our area yesterday and saw the unmistakable silhouette of a 40 parked next to a house. A rare sight these days indeed.

Naturally, I rolled up on the place.

A young 20-ish girl answered the door, and I asked about the old Toyota. She said that it was her grandfather’s as her mom walked up from the kitchen. Turns out, the husband (who was not home) teaches at our local high school and his dad bought it new. Apparently he has attempted to do a lot of work to the engine and can't seem to get it running right. A tree also fell on it at one point and damaged a few spots. I could tell that the passenger side hard top panel has been replaced in the process.

All in all though, it's really original. Has the 3-on-the-tree and looks to be original paint and a super clean interior. Would be a perfect candidate for a mechanical update, FST and a weekend driver. She asked for my number in case he wanted to sell, which was doubtful. Regardless, I always love meeting cruisers folks and hearing their stories.
