I have used original clamps on Std hose before, it is a "define the hose" thing. Some hose is thicker wall than others, so it works with some, doesn't with others.
The 3/8 transmission cooler hose I used once for a trail fix had an OD quite a bit smaller than the stock hose and the stock spring-clamp-thingies were too loose.....
My friend in Mesa was too far away to have him custom-turn some 6061 bushings to correct it..........
