came across this today. its very reasonably priced, and it will activate a relay or whatever you choose. one thing i notice though, is it doesnt seem to have a battery. The listing mentions a backup battery, but for the main i think it relies on the cars battery.

so i said id ask on here, is a drain of 80ma bad??

batteries are of course important, not sure if this gadgets a great idea

thanks for reading,
redd .

what software do you use to track it?

So how does it connect to the internet?...Is that what the GSM does?...

It doesnt look like it connects to a PC for software updates, either?

I"m guessing it uses a paid cell phone plan to contact you?

hi, yeah, exactly right. these type of trackers have been around for years. the Chinese have finally realised if they make a basic, cheap one they'll sell more units. the ones before that, tk102, tk104, tk105, did more and have internal batteries. in the case of tk104 the battery will last for 60 days

but theyre also more expensive.

yeah, you put a simcard in with credit, and when you want to know where your car is, you text a keyword to the tracker. the tracker then text you back, with its co-ordinates.

very simple, very cheap, very effective.

tk102, 4 and 5 can also activate a relay to cut the fuel or whatever else you choose, with another keyword.

so does anyone know how long 80MA will take to drain a standard car battery?

well, to oversimplify greatly, your typical car battery is something like 100Ah I think, and so 80mA would take something like 1000 hours to drain it. Probably less to the point where it won't crank anymore, but that's a good deal of time nonetheless.
Does not look like an objectionable drain to me.
