All,

I am redoing my 72 LC clutch along with other work. I purchased the new kit and attached the photo of the pressure plates side by side. The old one has 6 rollers. The new one has 5 springs. All the other dimensions are identical. I did see one with 6 springs however it was 10 7/8 inch OD vs. 10 3/4 OD.

My question is, will the one with the 5 springs be sufficient or should I return and go for the 6 Spring with the larger outer diameter. I believe the Flywheel will handle both.

Has anyone had to replace their clutch with a different roller configuration?

Thanks,

Boaf

I need to correct a term you used to incorrectly identify the parts in the picture. These are your clutch disc's and not the pressure plate. The clutch disc with 5 springs will be fine. Your old one uses rubber as the shock absorber vs. the new one which uses springs. Make sure you place the correct side against the flywheel.

Thanks, I keep referring to them as plates and they indeed are discs. My old school mentality. Yep, will make sure the orientation is correct. Usually it is stamped on the disc.

Just in case it isn't marked or the tag fell off, the raised side goes toward the pressure plate.

I just put a clutch disc in my 63 FJ40 today. There was only one way to put the disc in that sits flush with the flywheel, the two discs in the photos are showing the pressure plate side for the top disc and the flywheel side for the bottom disc. Is that correct? Must make one hell of a noise if you have it in backwards!!

It doesn't make much noise, you can't disengage the clutch enough to make it slip!
