I am trying to find out if a FJ60/62 power steering gearbox can be used in an early FJ40 without doing major modifications? I will the gearbox within the next few days and hope I can use it.

60/62 box mounts similar to the Scout setup, see the articles in the tech section. It will take some major work to install.

The EASY install option is the push-pull box from a 85-older 4wd minitruck.

Yes, but how effective is the Toyota box? I'm considering doing the same thing - converting to power steering in my FJ40. I've heard that the Toyota system is only slightly better than the stock system.

for up to 33" tires the OME fj40 PS is fine and feels great, I LOVE mine. a 60 box is prolly good for 35-37"

your more than welcome to come drive my 82 fj40 with OEM PS if ya want.

OEM fj40 PS is the same a mini truck, only difference is the box itself the guts are the same.

hey woody what year or model scout do you get that box off of. I'm going to try and get one this week so the drive to school isn't full of steering slop.

I'd go either GM, Scout, or AstroVan Saginaw and be done with it.
FJ60 boxes work pretty well, but are MAJOR money for a rebuilt unit.

Different Pitman arms are available for the Saginaw, so you can fine tune your steering.
Fj60 PS is pretty limited.

Maybe an IFS minitruck PS box would be an option, though I never seen one of these swaps into a cruiser.

I used to really not want to put chevy parts in my toyota, but I did GM Saginaw PS, and wish I would have done it sooner.
All I did was upped the pressure coming out of the PS pump, and I can turn my 35" MT/R's with 2 fingers.

What design is that motor of yours modeled off of? lol

I did a scout box. The hardest part was caused by the fact that I believed the writeups and that it is easily done without removing the shock tower. Just remove and relocate the stock tower and everything else will go smoothly.

What are the differences between the international boxes? I came across one today lying on the ground in a gravel pit in great shape, and it looks identical to all the ones I see in the writeups, but how can I be sure it's the right one?
