Whenever I add power steering fluid to the reservoir it goes straight through A whole in my power steering pump onto the ground. Is there supposed to be a plug in that hole or is there something wrong internally with pump?

Interesting, any recent work on the pump, original, remanufactured, resealed? Can you take another photo from below, a close-up directed at the leak?

Most likely pump needs rebuilt.
Get Gates kit which is OEM specs and rebuilt it yourself in an afternoon.
You will need a gear puller and digital camera to track how it comes apart.
Now is a good time to replace hose from tank to pump also, piece of 5/8" rated for oil (not coolant) should work.

I have a spare pump and rebuild kit sitting on my bench right now. The area you have circled has a small gray metal plug inside of it, with a slot that looks like it can almost accept a screw driver. When looking through my gates parts kit I do not see anything that looks like it would go in there. I would PM Beno and see if he can help you out.

Well luckily I replaced the pump about 6 months ago and autozone had a life time warranty on it. Got the new one this morning. Thanks for all the help

BTT,
Does anyone know if the hole/plug in the rear of the PS pump (97LX450) is just a freeze plug or is there a fitting/valve set up behind it?

I replace the pump 2 years ago & it just spit out the plug. It's under warranty, but we got it via Rock Auto, which means the car would be down for a week while we wait for a replacement. Major PIA right now with school ending.

Can I just find the right size plug & seal it in there?
