Potential Buy, Please Advise

Buddy of mine is looking for a truck and found this little bomb on CL :

1988 Toyota 4x4 Trade

We went and looked at it last night. The passenger-side rear tire spring hanger rusted out and the current owner did a gnarly weld job on it :



Frame rot like this usually freaks me out. But I'd like to bounce this off the community and ask for thoughts and in particular what we should be looking for on a truck like this (I'm a 40 owner, so my gauge for a good mini-truck is probably skewed a bit).

Otherwise, the test drive was solid. Fun little truck.

Any input would be appreciated.

That frame is done. NO WAY would I buy that truck. Keep looking.

Trust me, I've been there. You are only seeing a small percentage of the rot in that photo. I would bet if you reach up in the space between the gas tank and frame you can yank out a handful of frame.
