I m trying to decide whether or not to buy this truck. 1972 model all original. Rear seal is cut out, complete. Solid frame, solid tub, doors, top, all look good. Original drivetrain and paint. New wiring harness throughout. Fenders dented but not rusted. Fronted fenders new but not painted. No rust in rear half doors or front doors or hatch. Uncut dash with all knobs and pads. All original glass and rubber. Dent on rear Sid panel of the top, fixable. Hood dented from flying up going down rd. Runs and drives good. Rear body mounts need 4x4 patches welded in. Floor pans, bed and wheel wells are rust free. I don't know where it's been but I have never seen one with so little rust.

He is asking $5,500, I added up $8k in parts. I couldn't part it out though. I want one for a frame up resto. Tell me what you think.

IMO I think the price is about $2000 high at least. More pics would help a lot in an honest off-site evaluation. However, it's all about what you are willing to pay. I'm sure you will get more mudders requesting more pics as well. Good luck.

I'd offer 3.7 to 4k, but it's like my dad always told me, "it's worth what you're willing to pay for it." It's in about the same condition that I gave for my mostly stock 6/'72 FJ40. If it's as rust free as you're saying, you're starting out ahead of the game.

Keep in mind you're probably going to want to do some upgrades like disc brakes, power steering, suspension, yadda yadda...that stuff adds up fast, so keep that in mind when you make your offer.

Overall, it looks like a solid rig.

First question I have is what does "rear seal is cut out" mean? Do you mean sill? if so, no. Have you driven it? If not, do that before anything else. Climb underneath it and take a look at everything from the bottom up. Have some Cruiserheads check it out with you. Then, make a decision. Times are tough, things can be bought for a hell of a lot less than they could 5 years back.

Keep us posted

What are your intentions ? Enjoy taking apart and rebuilding and have the $, time and expertise? Or you just want to drive it and enjoy the off road with out the dirty finger nails? I just wanted it done my way... So I bought a rust free not running rig(5 g) and gave my self a budget10 g for everything. 1.5 yrs later and 40 g I have my rig done. I love it but I could have bought it done.. For half what I dumped into it. Get clear on what you want before you get started. Before you buy a rig...

if you see 8k in parts then you havnt tried parting one out.everyone and their mother is selling fj40 parts so its a crap shoot .go with the lower prices and good luck

Is it drivable?

The disc brakes are another plus. I would take off 1,000 and see what they say. It does need some work. As someone else said, have someone who knows these trucks take a look if you can -- might save from some hidden surprises.

Seems like a decent starting point to me. Offer him $4,000, if he takes it flip the Bezel and drive it until it tells you what it wants you to do to it.

Not sure he will come down that much. I did mean rear sill. He has slowly been working on repairing any damaged areas. I definitely think it is high. After looking around, I would have way more in it than other vehicles in the 10k range.

That's a nice base for a truck and the price is not ridiculous.
You might find one for less but not without rust.
If you can afford it, buy it for what you can get it for.

That one has been floating around GA Craigslist for several months. It may take a while longer for him to come down in price.

I wouldn't give more then $4k for it. Have you checked the engine, compression test? I would take a magnet and go all around the body looking for bondo just to be sure because most of the value of this cruiser to me would be a rust free body.
