I know it is not a 45. But, I own a 45 and view this sub forum more than an other and trust this tight-knit group:
Ok, so, later summer, I was fishing and ran across a young man stuck in his 2015 4x4 Silverado. I strapped up to him, locked my hubs, and snatched him right out. As soon as my revs returned to idle, I heard a knocking in my motor!
So, my 40 has been parked since late summer until I figured something out (rebuild, diesel, V8?)
I had a few buddies tell me to rip the valve cover off and see if anything crazy or obvious underneath. Well, today was that day and within 10 seconds, I found the issue.

The only problem now is the the adjusting screw does not go far enough down to seat to the rod. Not sure if it’s stripped or cross threaded or? I’ll investigate further tomorrow. I am relieved and shocked that my motor my beetle okay after all!

Replace that particular rocker , I'd pull the rod to see if it is bent also

Thanks guys for the tips... I'll look at it today. Might / should have to get a rocker and rod to be safe. who would source single items like this? Or, will I have to get used?

Yeah Jack, I have a December of 1970 motor. Seems like there were changes around 7/8 of 1970. Not sure if there were changes to the motor.... I doubt it. I’d just need a rod, single rocker arm, and tappet screw w/ locking nut.

So, after further investing, those components will work. I don’t have many parts but let me know what you need for the rattlecan build! I might have it. If not, let me know how much I owe to include shipping. Thx!

Thx Jack. Appears to be an intake rocker.

So, that rocker arm, a flat tip screw with locking nut, and the straitest rod you have!

Wow. Do those round knobby ends on the rods come off or are they part of the arm (or pressed on)? New stuff for me.
