Never fails that a good 4x4 never breaks down on the trail, it's the road miles that will kill them.

This is getting to be a common scene at my place now that I'm driving the little cammo truck every day to work. Poor little dude is showing all its battle scarring. Had to replace a wheel bearing the other night, then noticed it was turning its front tire into a cone shape, probably explaining why it darts around on the ice in four wheel drive. Went to have it aligned and figured out that I have somehow bent my idler arm, haha. You know you've had some fun when you bent your idler arm. Let see what falls off next.

I don't think the road miles are killing it. It was you trying to kill it before it became a DD that is the problem . I remember what you did with that when you first got it. I can think of a couple of places where that idler arm got bent. One of which is your picture on the webpage. :grinpimp:

What is that on your hood?

Such a cool truck. I just finish watching the BBC Top Gear were they tried to destroy the Hilux and failed. I need to get a mini myself...

And Leon, I believe that's the Tacoma wheels hubcap.

Ding ding... Two points Travis.

Leon, very true. I don't think a lot of the recent membership was in on what this poor truck used to make it up and through. Never thought I'd keep it this long, and sadly, it's days are probably numbered in my fleet. I'm still looking for a smokin deal on a TJ Wrangler, just haven't found one I could get to in time yet.

So before starting work on the steering, I ran a tape measure from inside of tire to inside of the other tire front and back, and I was an inch toed in... An INCH! Yup, that'll cause you to dart around a bit....

After the work I was 1/8 of an inch toe in. What a difference some new parts make :)

 yep, it ought to run a bit better now

Found the next bad part! Lol.

Been having crazy idle problems, and at times, the truck feels like it has no power, then gets going a little bit and takes off. Almost like riding a 2 cycle dirt bike when it gets in its power band. Decided I should start with the easy stuff and checked the throttle position sensor... Sure enough, it was stuck at mid travel. Got a new unit shipped from rockauto.com for 40 bucks instead of the local 86 and 89 dollar units, and the old dog is purring like brand new... Again. Found a cracked hose while I was in there too. Lets see what she'll puke up next :)
