Poor ARB bumper...

Update: other driver filed a claim and my insurance company denied it as they determined he cause the accident. We filed a claim and of course his insurance company said she caused the accident. Anyway, i only have liability as this was either a 4 or 5 vehicle before she even had her DLC.

So I'm going to fix it myself. Will a fender from a 97 fit a 94, and what's a decent price for a used front bumper?

TIA

Everybody avoiding the elephant in the room here

I had the " 'cause it's 1..2..3 strikes you're out" line from 'The old ball game' song in my head.

She already has 2 to her name in just the month, I'm not sure she gets driving isn't a points-based game. Hard to say.

FWIW, an ARB is a perfect compromise bumper for armor yet still crash deformable for on-road driving.

For some reason I'm having trouble seeing how the two bumpers line up on damage? Was there previous damage on the arb?

Rear mount tyre spread the load on the Jeep reducing impact damage IMO.

FWIW, I had considered toughening up the plastic corners on the OE bumper but, recognise their sacrificial nature is in preference to cutting into a tyre in the event of a knock, now I just pop rivet them back on if they take a hit on the trail.

Regards

Dave

Passing no judgement here just some .02 based on my sometimes flawed perception. A long time a go I drove a tow truck covering NYC parkways and responded to numerous accidents daily. IMHO that is a 20 mph or less hit, probably when both vehicles were on hard on brakes. lucky nobody is hurt. the ARB absorbed energy instead of the occupants absorbing energy - this is always a good thing in my book.
Recently I took a motorcycle safety class; 1 day classroom, 3 days riding on a closed course. Probably one of the best courses for any driver of anything to take. Teaches alot of good things like having to constantly identify your escape routes, pay attention to, and anticipate other drivers possible moves, this keeps you safe. There is alot more where that comes from. After taking the class I will not ride a motorcycle in NYC metro area, too many factors and people distracted by cell phones, etc.
Everybody stay safe, and most everyone can become a better driver no matter how good you think you already are. Thank you for listening to today's public service announcement. Brought to you by a guy bored at work.

+1

Cel phones are a bane to street cycles, motor or pedal.
When I tossed the keys to my old Yamaha R6 in at the local powersport dealer in favor of going back to dirt on a YZ250 (simply traded it in & took credit towards the YZ) -the partscounter guy & I had a discreet conversation about how much he sees that happen.

Not just liter bikes & crotch-rockets, many of the bikes from the chopper boom in the '00 yrs are collecting dust in garages from what he said - longterm Harley guys benefitted as they got great bikes on the cheap, downside is there's a glut & now Harley Davidson as a company is back on hard times. Too much supply of barely used custom street bikes.

I agree though - motorcycle class was good/great here too & I learned alot that can cross over to driver awareness either bike or car. Prob more than you get in remedial driver's class, so if you were suggesting it as a help with "Lil' Princess" driving habits, then I agree & think it's a good idea (gotta be 18 here tho-maybe diff from state-state???).

Now that we derailed the OP's thread, he can take it back if he likes.
- Sorry OP :hillbilly: -

FZJ bumpers (stock) are around $100 in these parts (on Craigslist). Be sure you get the correct year valance, as an early valence will not work with a later grille, and vice versa. In your case, you need a pre-1995 valence panel. The fenders should interchange. Side marker lights vary by year, so get a matching pair or contact Cruiseryard to get what you need.

I don't think I've hit anything with my slee doing 20mph, kind of depends on how much energy is transferred vs just totally applied to the bumper.

The good news is all that force that went to bend the ARB wasn't transferred to your kid. Like others have said, I'll shoot my 80 with an RPG before anything should happen to my girls.

Thanks for the replies guys! The two accidents were not within the same month and this one was not held against her by the ins company.

Anyways I was able to cut part of the bumper off this weekend, as it was sticking into the tire, and drive her around the block. Mechanically feels fine but butt ugly.lol. Got all the bolts off the bumper, except one that I'll cut off as there's not enough room to get a socket in. I'll get to that later this week. Started sourcing parts and have found pricing to be very reasonable.

So 8 years later, lol damm time flys, and all I've done to the old piggy is changing the hood and fender. Got a tan/cream one in the junk yard. Since this post I've probably put a 100 miles on her moving it from one side of the street to another. I think is time to part with her as I've too many cars so I'll be putting a FS post in the classifieds in a few days. I did put a new battery in her a couple weeks ago.
