I've heard mixed things on this: So how many of us are keeping our engine covers versus ditching them for accessibility? Are you keeping all 4 plastic covers, losing all 4 plastic pieces, or using some combination of them (such as ditching the fuse box cover side and front panel, while keeping the engine panel and air box panel)?

Personally, I tend to keep the panels, but I've lost so many of the plastic clips at this point that I have a hard time justifying keeping them all.

Feel free to comment with your logic or stories why you do what you do.

i voted for keep them all, however i only have the main one left because other things got in the way for using the side covers. other wise id have them all on

I plan to pull them all off but have kept them on for now. What are the upsides of leaving them on?

I kept mine... in the garage. I prefer to see everything and have ready access as needed. I only had 1 plastic clip left anyway :) They are designed to keep sound down in the cabin but I like to hear what is going on in the truck.

Since they retain heat - here's an idea. Ditch them in the summer, and install them in the winter. It's not like you need any extra underhood heat on a 95 degree day to further cook vacuum and coolant lines under the hood... but in the winter, they would tend to keep things a bit warmer under hood between drive cycles.

I just got an GX and have been wondering whether to keep or ditch them.

I’m torn on this. I still have all of mine. I have worked hard to keep them as I like to keep engine noise down to a min but has anyone noticed any real difference in noise? I would love to ditch them especially with my on board air setup I am thinking of.

Well, we're almost split with the one "keep some and ditch some" vote being mine... So this has, at least, reaffirmed the split thoughts that I have found elsewhere in my research. I think it may come down to noise mitigation. I'll probably run some tests and see if there really is a measurable/noticeable difference with and without covers. I'll report back.... whenever the hell that happens.

All mine are for sale, with a few others pieces in classified section.

Bought with only the main engine cover in place. It works well like this for me.
