the EGR port make s a 90 degree downturn into the main plenum tunnel, often over looked or not cleaned out completely.
see post #12 in this thread it gives a real good shot of it

thanks gents. can i just please confirm how many holes i need to clean out and where they are exactly? i know they are shown here i just want to make sure i know what i am doing. also, by the time i pull the intake plenum i am basically doing a valve cover gasket and a fuel filter, ALL hoses i can get to and a handful of other items?
i'm asking because i was considering tackling the EGR valve (diagnostic and cleaning) and the EVR valve (mine is a tad loose) - both of which seem easy enough to tackle on the street really quickly.

in the top pic you can see a throughly cleaned out EGR port that opens up in the main plenum runner,a lot of crude gets built up in there due to the turns the port makes.make sure it looks as clean as the top pic.

hi gents,
can i just please make sure i have names associated with these ports before i have to go in? i’m having a hard time orienting myself before tearing it apart.

1. the multiple angles line is a “upper intake manifold port”?
2. the dashes line is a “vacuum hose port” (for something or other)
3. what are the two orthogonal lines one with U shaped and one L shaped? then there is the image with the YELLOW line which i guess is the Ushaoed port in the other image?
4. what was the circled item again please?
THANKS
jon

B. what is the large-ish assembly shown in this other image please?
C. what are the round rubber looking deals?
D. for gaskets am i seeing just a throttle body gasket and two valve cover gaskets?
THANK YOU

top pic circled sensor is for the EGR its the temp sensor
top pic long red line port is EGR port
top pic short red line is vacuum port it goes to PCV in valve cover
in your second set of pics
large red circle is a water line from engine block to throttle body, then it goes fromTB back to thermostat area on front of engine
other red circle(bust nipple)is vacuum for the fuel pressure regulator-needs to be fixed

what round looking rubber things if your referring to the second pic on post#127 those go in the valve cover(spark plug)PIA to get old ones out

solid line in this one is EGR port and dashed line is vacuum port to PCV valve? just want to make sure i am seeing all this correctly.

these are all the valve cover spark plug grommets i gather? the ones next to the fuel rail at the top look a lot thinner than the ones in the “pre-surgery” pic...

those black rubber pieces are the spark plug grommets, thats what old ones look like after you hammer them out of the valve cover, depending on how much foul language is used most come out in one piece looks like you used a few choice words ................that day

do you have to get your vehicle emissions tested?
thanks a ton for those. yes. inspection sticker then plates down here so i’m running old temp tags at the moment.

starting to think i’d rather do the full valve cover gasket and incidentals job after it is plated. i’d enjoy it more, it would be warmer and i wouldn’t have other s*** in the way.

at the same time getting the full picture is helpful to me at least tonorder the parts...

going to read the FSM, check the EGR, clear the port at the air intake plenum by pulling the throttle body assembly (?) - and there was one other quick fix...?

did you manage to take all the electrical injector connectors off with out breaking any, replace any that don't lock back on.
