PLEASE HELP - 1997 LX450 208k Miles - MAGNETIC METAL IN OIL

I replaced the 2 rear most main bearings in situ late last year on my daughters LX450.

Dropped both pans, loosened all main caps a wee bit and pushed the old bearing out with the new bearing. I have a 2 post lift which made it a bit easier.

I did find out the "different size" main and rod bearings are a thing of the past. Standard or regrind sizes only.

The project ended up a failure as the #5 rod journal was a bit undersized from damage and knocks even with 20W50 oil.

If I had to do it over again I would have sourced a good used engine and gone to town.
What do you mean different size bearings are a thing of the past?

Was told by buddy that works at Cabe in Long Beach that Standard and Regrind size only available. The individual hand fit sizes used when the factory built the engines are NLA.

My friend is a trusted source (not that he can’t be mistaken).

Here's how it works;
If the crank is "standard" each bearing journal is fitted individually. Those bearings are still available.
If the crank needs to be machined it is cut .25mm undersized and the bearings come as a set only and are not fitted to individual journals.

I understand how it works. Just sharing what I was told by a friend at Cabe that has worked there 30+ years.

At the end of the day I don’t know one way or the other in actual availability and due to journal damage it would not have made much difference anyway.
