Hey all,

So I've got around to finally testing out the plastidip on our side molding. We're really looking at doing some of what @Taco2Cruiser had done to his LC. Our thoughts are to do the lower doors/wheel wells/hood with a thin layer of Line-X. Anyway, here is what it looks like thus far.

I have the same exact vehicle as you.

Honestly, I like the chrome better. A little too chunky, I think the curve at the top is throwing me off (it's not noticeable in the default color) maybe if you did just the top strip. The only thing that matters is whether you like it though. ;) It is hard to tell with such a close photo though.

I was actually thinking about photoshopping the black plastic trim on the tailgate base a silver color to match the rest of the vehicle. :)

By the way, what happened to your Rock Warriors?

OK. So honest opinion (you did want thoughts, right? ;)

To me, it starts to look a bit too much like GM's practice from the 90's of sticking plastic moldings onto cars or trucks and then calingl them "Sport" version or something. Or like the early Cadillac SUV that was really just a Suburban or or Tahoe with plastic stuck to the sides to make it look different...(and those GIGANTIC Caddy emblems they stuck on back to make sure you could see it wasn't (cough) a Suburban or Tahoe...

I'd leave the Plastidip on the chrome, but peel it off everything else.

That's actually the next step on the eval process.

It will be easy to peel off. I wanted to get a good visual that would be easy to clean up.

Have a look at what WildyOats did to his chrome. I think it looks nice. Wonder if you could try something like this?
(Scroll down the first page of this thread to see how he did it)
Wildyoats' 200 build - OME, Method Racing wheels, 305/65 18 Falken Wildpeak AT3W

PS. Here's my 2008 that did not come with ANY side bumps. If it had, maybe black would blend in fine on dark grey, but on your light silver it draws attention to them. But meh... We all have different tastes. ;)

I did the same on my LC, ended up taking it off.

So this morning I pulled off the plastidip from the doors. I did each door a little different to get a feel for how it'd look.

One is with the plastidip on the chrome, the other is with it on the molding only.

My gut feeling is that I really don't like either. I'm starting to think more about just removing the molding all together like @Markuson suggested.

Anyway, I wanted to show you guys what I was up to.

If you remove you will have holes in your doors. '08-'11 didn't have the molds so no holes.

Yeah, I was thinking about the welding situation the other day. I figured if we were going to spray Line-X on the lower half of the door it wouldn't matter to paint match.

Meh, we'll see happens.

I didn't mean to imply removing it. -Just that black might look better with a darker door. I posted my photo of mine just to show how they originally came without anything there...suggesting maybe a color that blends better might look good.

**I don't think you can remove them completely, as I'm pretty sure there are square HOLES in the body panel where they connect.

I think the chrome looks great on yours, by the way.

@Markuson, I knew the holes would be there if I removed it. That's why we were toying with the plastidip on the molding. I do like how it looks without the molding. I've got access to welding equipment/material if we did decide to go that route. It is a big decision though, so we aren't making it lightly.

On the other side, we are still not fully sold on the black. We like it but, will it be faddish, we don't know. I'm sure we'll mess around with a few more ideas.

Thanks everyone!!

I guess plastidip is perfect, then, because you can easily change your mind.

I've thought about playing around with plastidip too, but I always end up deciding I like the way things look already...so why mess with it.

This is one of the best things about this forum--
Whether we like each idea or not, we all have a chance to see them play out for better or worse.

So kudos to anyone willing to try stuff and double kudos when they welcome honest comments & openions.

Super helpful.

Here's a pic of my 2013 with plastic dip on the chrome part of the side molding. I like how it came out.

Is that Gunmetal dip? I like it. I had gunmetal dip with metalizer on my RSX wheels for a while, then back to stock. Nice thing it is not permanent, but it helps a lot to use thick coats to make removal easier if/when you want to change it.
