Not a 200, but since you asked:

Yeah, I'm not sure what the owner was going for.

"Clown Car" is my guess.

do it, it'll look way better! The S is super easy to work with and if ya don't like it just pull it off...

These look great, and they appear to match pretty well. DO you have a profile picture? What brand did you use because I am afraid if I go with grey it will contract or look off. May go black but like what you have.

Mine in black, this was done on April 3rd and I just had to redo the wheels. I had been on a half-dozen weekend trips, plus took the truck through the car-wash almost weekly since. I'll say that getting the black plastidip off completely was a PIA.
That said I still did it again... guess I'm a sucker... that and the original rims were a bit ugly since I buffed them out a bit the first time. I went w/ "gray" this last time, also "gray-ed out" the front grill, side panels, and rear emblems. I love the grill, not sure I like the gray w/ the silver on the rest of the vehicle though. Will probably go back to black next time. Apparently I didn't take photos of the gray plastidip and I just got back from Mammoth so the truck is filthy. I'll try and get some better pics when I get to the carwash.

I ordered up Opaque in hopes of making any chrome on my truck look more like brushed aluminum.

Should arrive one day this week. I'll prob have time to try it out 4th quarter. :(

Only 5 months!? What kind of prep did you do? How many coats did you put on?

I put Plastidip on my wife's DD's wheels 2.5 years ago and it still looks great.

Your wife take that DD off-road? I do about every other weekend. Once you get a scrape, be it a rock or whatever its really tough to repair once it starts to peel. You can try and cut into it, to make a fresh break to re-coat but I tried that too and it just didn't look right. I could tell where the repair was and didn't like it one bit. I actually think pasti-dipping wheels on a $45k truck is a bit of a sham but hey... until these KO2s need replacing I won't be replacing my wheels. And it's not worth powder coating the factory rims when I won't end up keeping them anyway.

But to your question... I fine sanded every wheel to remove the factory clear coat. Then cleaned and greased each wheel. Used 1 can per wheel = 5 or 6 coats at least. I did NOT do the clear coat (on purpose).

I'd be curious how long it lasted for others who don't just cruise to the mall!

Been going strong on mine for 30,000 miles, two 9 day trips to Moab, Ouray, plus wheeling in the red river gorge, and various other off road parks. let's not forget the winter (snow/ice/salt) with multiple car washes. Only prep work I did was degrease and then applied the plastdip. I have a few spots that have peeled on the very outer edge and it's not an eyesore. Not sure why you're experiencing the issues you have. I've put mine through torture and the plastdip just keeps taking it. No sham in my eyes just an easy option the change things up and keep it interesting. Maybe when you removed the clear coat on your wheels prior to applying your plastdip the new porous surface doesn't hold as well (think sticker not paint). That's the only rational thought I can come up with

Yeah that def could be it (removing the clear coat). I would still think it should stick just as well to porous, but be harder to remove.

I can't stand the peeling at the edge of the rim, to me I see it immediately and it IS an eyesore.

We shall see how long this last coat will last but I assume around the same. And I really think the car washes speed the wear process too, especially once it starts to peel around the edges. In San Diego where I live there's a car wash called Soapy Joe's, $20 for monthly membership with unlimited washes, so like I said I take mine at least once a week.

Plastdip is a band aid not and end all. Hope this last coat works out well for you. I've been impressed for what it is and the associated cost.
Best of luck

Get them powder coated in anthracite grey. I had anthracite gray powder coat applied to my OE 100 series wheels and I am very happy with them. $360 for 4 wheels, but it is very durable and permanent compared to plasti dip. Looks better too. I recommend having a powder coat baked on as a permanent solution. The powder coat looks much better than, and does not rub off like, plasti dip.

Yikes, hows your paint holding up? In my experience, drive-thru car washes are either too harsh on a vehicle, leaving scratches in the paint, (and ripping off roof rack trim pieces on the 100 series) or they don't clean well enough and you end up having to go back afterwards by hand anyway. Hand wash only for my baby with Mothers Carnauba Wash. Smells like bananas and coconuts, mmmmm

Yeah, those auto pay to play wash places seldom keep their equipment (mechanical brushes/scrubbers) sufficiently cleaned.

Mogwai's experience with plasti dip seems to be the exception, its really surprisingly durable. I sprayed half my 62 with it, and have dragged the back end along boulders and it scrapes off there, but doesnt continue to peel. No prep work besides washing the vehicle before hand.

Ah, gotcha! That definitely makes sense. My wife's offroading mainly consists of bashing curbs in parking lots... :bang: I have never powder coated wheels/sliders/bumpers, etc., but I've heard they don't hold up great to offroad use, either. And once you bash it, there's no good way to touch it up...

Powder coating is pretty dog gone durable. I have several mountain bike frames, steel tubes, powder coated.

Looks good.

I plastidipped my FJ's bumper and never had any scratches worth mentioning after 3 years. I would touch it of from time to time however.

Also did the hood (as seen in my pic), that lasted over a year with not a single problem.
