Noticed my rear diff was leaking today from the pinion seal area. I was thinking that it looked like a fairly easy fix. was wondering if there were any surprises I'm in for. Any experience with aftermarket seals, of should i go toyota.

Thanks

You'll need a new pinion seal and a new stake nut for the pinion. I ALWAYS go straight to Toyota for seals, they are much better than the aftermarket seals. 30mm socket. Do you have a FSM with the procedure?

truck

89 extracab 22re. truck is fixed. front cv started to squeek today. seems like there is quite a bit of play where the outside boot hooks up with the hub. damb. lol. gotta fix that now. gonna do a search on the forum I'm sure there is plenty of info on that on that one. wanted to SAS it but have to wait a bit on funds...so I'm gonna flush more cash down the tube. you guys think it is fine to drive in 2wd for another ten days or so? even with the squeek and play? my plan was to take the clamp off the boot, cram a sh******od of grease and hope for the best for a while. reason being is I'm working 3.5 hours north (4 hours south of the YUKON) of anything for another ten or so days and need it last for that long. thanks again for everyones help on the pinion seal.

Here is the FSM link... 1993 Toyota Pickup Service Manual

If you're in 2wd the cv's won't even spin, so I'm thinking you should look at the front wheel bearings. Do you need 4wd?

The play in the cv is probably in the brass bushings in the hub.
