A while ago I picked up a few transmissions, one had this funny sensor on it. When I asked about it, I was told it was a 1976 emission component that retarded the timing in 3rd and 4th. It has been awhile since I've looked at that trans since it is in my storage unit. The sensor was either on the top or back, I don't remember. But this was a stock 4spd cruiser part made for a limited time. Maybe someone can chime in on the accuracy. Go get real up close and personal with your trans and find the only wires that are not to the reverse switch. Unplug them and see what happens.

It's not nice to call transmissions retarded.

Mine's a '76, US model and there is only a reverse switch on the tranny.

My '76 does not have this switch on the trans, but I have seen it mentioned once or twice in here. Last time Mark A. chimed in with something about how your car will work fine with it disconnected(and some wire jumped to somewhere), but he could never recomend anyone do such a thing... wink wink (being a licensed repair facility). I don't remember the symptoms, of whatever truck the thread was about, though. My '76 also does not have whatever emissions junk it is that some have inline with the speedo and cable (early speed sensor?). Must be inside my speedo or something.

Mine had that. It's all ancient history now though with the 3B turbo-diesel!!
