Hey folks,

I'm seeking permission to use the following logo. I have secured permission from Marv Specter of SOR, but he can't remember who it belongs to. Marv says, I can use it as far as he's concerned, or something to that effect...

This image is from the SOR DVD frame #2 of the Pig Run 2004 photo section:

There's another version on the hood of a Rock Climber Pig in the Pig Run 2005 section too.

Not only do I want to have this on the hood of *my* '75 FJ55 (I'll do the hard work on it just need the permission...), but T-shirts would be great too! (TimboFJ45 please take note!) ;)

Thanks in advance for any leads as to who owns this logo copyright.

Forgivness is easier to recieve than permission!! I say put it on there! They'll let you know if you are infringing on any copyrights, but based on the picture I see any marking to indicate any sort of copyright.

Yeah, Marv has a similar attitude, he gave me the impression that no one would mind.

However, as a musician trying to avoid a conflict of interest (I pay my dues to the Harry Fox Agency at $0.095 per song per copy for cover tunes and expect my copyrights for originals to be respected) I want to make an effort to secure permission.

Besides, new copyright laws eliminate the need for any labeling as such (© 2007) and copyright is now literally implied upon creation. Registration is a whole 'nuther ballgame, without copyright registry, one cannot go to court to protect their property. But for all intents and purposes, every creation has copyright, whether registered or not.

Trying not to be a know-it-all, but this is right up my alley...

It's some skateboard maker's logo...I have one of those little stickers on my tailgate.

Hmmmm...

Could be Trademark Registered then...

That complicates things a tad, but thank you so much for the lead!

I recognize your '55 from one of the Pig Run photo shoots... T Wrecks, right?

Perhaps the above photo is from your pig?

I'll make an effort to research and see if I can find the owner, but if it doesn't belong to a specific FJ55 group or owner, I may opt to use it anyway! (tempting Karma...)

Why not do a slightly different and cooler rendition of it?

Yes, I'm considering that.

My Cruiser has an aviation theme, which is why the logo is so fitting. Perhaps adding a scarf and leather aviator's cap (old school) would fill the bill...

However (I tend to think way too much)...

If it were my logo, I would rather someone keep it true rather than "bastardizing" it in any way. The former pays homage, the latter is a blatant rip-off.

Any more thoughts on this?

Should I quit while I'm ahead?

Could I be opening a can of worms?

Yup, my plates read TWRECKS, I think Don (FC187) had the big Pig sticker on his hood.

aww you guys beat me to the skateboard wheels and bearings. i have some of those decals also, from my local skate shop.

i am interested in the aviation theme,,, pics?? i have been laying out a design to redo mine WWII bomber motif. silver paint with rivited panels, nose art pinup girl and tail markings. what do you have?

RHINO,

Well, my Pig's in the shop still on the lift, my mechanic is gone for the weekend, and my wife has the camera. Three strikes and I'm out!

I'll try to get pics ASAP, but in the meantime, I can describe it...

On the front grille is the ubiquitous "I'd Rather Be Flying" plate, and on the rear glass, the equally ubiquitous "AOPA" wings-and-shield sticker. I also have several other aviation-type jokes, such as the word "EXPERIMENTAL" on the hood just above the grille, a placard stating "Unleaded Auto Fuel Only" on the gas cap door, "Spins Prohibited" placard as well as a "Fasten Seatbelt" placard, and placards near the front vents stating "Caution! Static Ports, Keep Clean". Plus a "Panic Button" on the dash. Only pilots would laugh at some of these, so don't despair if you don't get it.

I have a hand-held transceiver and a mounted aviation antenna, which I use to tune in to the local AWOS before flying, to check weather conditions.

Everything listed came from Sporty's Pilot Shop http://www.sportys.com/ .

I like your idea too! My Pig is about the color of a C-130 right now, and I am going to employ peanut lights into the interior somehow.

stickers

I am the one who took thoes photos . the one on the hood is of fc187 rockwelledpig . whom was sold to a gent in Los Angeles ca.
They were from a long gone LA based radio station PIRATE RADIO in its early years . and were refered to as the pirate pig ,.
yes they were copyrighted . but with the radio station being disolved . the ownership would be in question .
later a skate shop took the likeness and used it as well .
they are kool and i have some samples that i have used on my older fj40s from that time period
