Hi All,

was wondering if anyone knows of a good place I could send my 1970 FJ55 dash to be restored. I found one place in LA but they wanted $600 minimum to do it and that it may be more when they get it. Mine is pretty cracked up, was thinking of fixin it myself but it would probably end up looking like poo. Anyone with good experiences with a shop that specializes in this stuff, please contact me. I can't use the dash caps that are available as they are only for the later model dashes.

no diaper duty tonight? J/K.

I dont know of other shops, but with just dashes costs, there ought to be a competitor! Ask around and find out who built the reproduction dash pads and glove boxes, I would imagine that one could get them to restore one.

BTW, anyone know who made the repro dash parts? off-road west offered them up before anyone else I know of, but I have no idea what happened to them? website is gone.

T's mom is here for the week, thank god, I am fxxxed after she leaves. :)

just checked sor for the 55 windshield, $619 bucks!, how much did you pay and where did you order the glass from? I am headed out to the garage now to see what other glass I have. You are making me nervous with the whole better order now thing.

2 things.............my windshield was expensive, but at least I got a TLCA discount through the Tpyota dealer.

I had to replace my dash cap. I have the earlier style, but used SOR's replacement for the later models. It looks great.

I paid 300 hun.$ for a windshield from windsheilds express in colorado....soory dont have a phone book handy!

Nat, so you used the SOR reproduction later style dash on an earlier style truck? I was not sure how this would look, would you mind posting pics of how your dash looks?

thanks,

Noah

Yeah, I need to redo my dash as well on my 1970... this thread is useless without pics! :flipoff2:

So the later style dash cap works? good news for us!

I think it would work, BUT I wonder how good it would look as it does not fit the same lines as the earlier dashes.....

have the same question; replaced the dash cap on the 78 but just bought a 69 with a very crappy dash that will need replacing or rebuilding.....was thinking about installing a later dash BUT find out that the lines are very different :(

Depending on how much of a purist you are..........you may hate how it looks and especially my fix to clean it all up.

I have a pseudo break in the rain...........gonna try and get some pics.

Dash cover

I believe I got mine from SOR. It is for a newer 55, but the only issue seems to be the overhang by the rear window switch. Other than that, it has been looking good for four plus years.

Sweet! Nice fix.

Look in the POTM thread, you can see my proposed fix.

Right. Later style cap on my pre 9/72 dash. Like I said, the only issue is a slight overhang at the rear window switch. You could probably trim that a bit.

That is really not too bad at all. Did you install per their instructions? Any special tips?

I just got my dashpad in yesterday, haven't put it in the pig yet, cause i know once that happens, I'll need to have some time set aside to get it installed.

Looks good.

Any special tips?

I used cardboard shims to ensure contact with the pad and the cap so the silicone would stick. This is on a '76. Of course once the silicone is dry you can remove the cardboard.
