A couple more:

Qaysar, Afghanistan

Funny story about the three donkeys; About an hour earlier, a couple boys had coaxed, pulled and beat those three donkeys with a stick to get them to come into town. Once in town, their dad loaded up the stuff he had purchased, and then they just released the donkeys, who turned around, and started trudging home. They evidently knew the way and could be trusted to arrive safely.

I really liked Mazar; it was full of all sorts of beautiful sights.

I was on the V Corps planning cell in early 2003 for putting in FOBs and LSAs and saw the whole thing unravel before my eyes like a low speed traffic accident on an icy mountain road.

The USAF was pushing hard to make BIAP into the primary LSA for all of Iraq and a particular unit, I forget which, which was already sitting in the Speicher location was whinging and crying about staying there. We won the battle for Balad SE to become the main LSA, but lost the battle to relocate Speicher.

Morons.
And that poor unit and all the follow on units that were stuck at Speicher were probably getting hit 24/7 by Sadaam's homeboys! We did a lot of not so smart stuff for the entire OIF campaign. I'm glad to be out of there!!!

That's a great pic.

Here's mine from Ranger Class 12-89. My broken ass lost about 24 lbs during this class.

Eban Emael, Belgium: A visit to Eban Emael was part of my farewell party, when I rotated back to the States. If anyone is not familiar with Eban Emael, you'll find reading about it quite interesting!!
