Here's my set up for now. It is just mounted to 2x4's until I get my rack built, which will raise it up about 20". That way I will be able to access my stuff as well as have room for a pair of kayaks underneath. This tent is the Eezi-awn 2200 family tent.

The lid of mine was thrown on for a trip and hasn't come off yet. The tent is headed to the roof of my BJ74 eventially.

lowenbrau, do you have any gas-assist shocks on your lid? That is the main thing I still have on my to-do list...

Nice pic from the back of the 40 on the trail, by the way.

Please allow me to ask mr Rezarf where did you obtain the PSP you have on the roof of the cruiser???

If I knew what a "PSP" was, I could respond, sorry, I am clueless on this one.

Yes, I actually got this done earlier this evening. I did an extensive search for paintable sealants, and I settled for a masonry sealant, oddly enough. It was the only sealant that I could find that could be painted over (according to manufacturer specs). The deck and fence sealants all seemed too oily, and I figured that it might affect the OD paint process. It is drying overnight tonight, and I hope to do some painting tomorrow if the weather permits.

I also bought EPDM weatherstripping that I will use between the deck and the trailer to keep dust and water out.

any word on how the paintable sealer turned out? i need t paint my storage box in the back of my cruiser and want it water proof for the snow gear.

thanks
mike

I think it will do a great job, but it probably needs to be used on rough surfaces because it leaves a rough and almost gritty finish. I didn't mind it, because plywood is rough anyway.

It paints very well. I'll post pics soon.

I like all the flat lockable lids, and I went that route when I first mounted my tent. However I tend to carry a lot of gear and seem to be in and out of it often, I got tired of lifting it to access the trailer, I don't have a tailgate so that doesn't help. I have also tried flipping the tent off the side out the back and now to the front. To the front has worked out the best for my set up. I set the height of the tent at about 6' so I could walk under it, but with it flipping to the front it doesn't really matter, just high enough to move coolers and stuff over the edge of the trailer. I want to get a full canvas top for it with roll up sides, just haven't found someone local to do it yet. It seems to be a never ending build, which I wonder if I should just move forward with my scratch build plans???

PSP is the military term for perforated steel plate,, you may know it as aircraft mat or just a means to cross a divide with, the steel on the street side on top of the rig. is what I need a source for. Thanks.

Heres a few shots of my junk. A direct rip-off of Henry's set up...M101 SOA w/ 35's and a custom Aluminum lockable lid with a Hannibal tent bolted to it. The frame of the lid is rectangular tube with the aluminum rivited to it...all mounted by a massive piano hinge and suported by 400lb twin gas struts. I tried 150 lb struts first but they werent beefy enough.
